Product Review – Rid-A-Tick

The incidence of Lyme disease in our area of Pennsylvania is increasing rapidly. There is a new product on the market to help prevent this insidious disease. Rid-A-Tick is a new product sent to me by a new member of the Pennsylvania Outdoors Writers Association for review.

Rid-A-Tick is a hypoallergenic latex free adhesive which is a circular one inch that you place over the tick after you find one on either a person or animal. Unlike other methods of tick removal, this system kills the tick and allows you to remove it entirely. Encapsulation prevents blood transfer. You can them either dispose of the tick or take it to your doctor for analysis. I like this idea of entirely removing the entire tick. The discs are made from 3M surgical tape. Each package contains six discs.

I have spoken to many folks who have Lyme disease. The stories of the physical incapacity and suffering along with medical misdiagnosis are sorrowful. I talked to a friend of mine the other day who absolutely loves the outdoors. His went for a walk on his property to search for white-tail buck sheds. Sheds are the term for antlers which fall off all bucks each year. Some very nice like knife handles and custom made jewelry can be fashioned from them. He told me that both he and his dog found several ticks on each of them in just a one hour walk. He stated that he will not be hunting spring gobblers this year.

You can get a lot more information by going to the website: www.rid-a-tick.com and ordering information. The disc is FDA approved so it must work. It takes about 24 hours before an infected tick can infect you. So it just makes perfect sense that if you can find and remove the critter, you will be safe. The Manufacturer’s suggest retail price is only $5.99 per six disc container, easily affordable.

As you long time readers know, whenever I go afield, I wear garments which are treated to repel ticks, flies, midges and other creatures. Linda and I have Insect Shield treated hats, scarves, shirts, pants and socks.

We ever wear these clothes around our yard because ticks do live in any shades areas like leaf litter, woodpiles etc. If any reader does order and use this product, I would appreciate a product review.
