Introduction

Our year conducted an anonymous survey on all aspects of well being.

Healthy eating

The majority of males always have breakfast, normally cereal and toast. On the other hand a minority of females have breakfast, generally cereal and toast. Most females sometimes have breakfast, mostly on the weekend which is often cooked.

70% of the males normally have cooked meals after school but the other 30% have them every day. Most females always have cooked meals after school while some females eat them most of the time, after school.

Three quarters of the males have meals with their family almost every day. Only a quarter of the males have meals with their family not very often. 40% of the females always eat with their families for tea. A small minority of the females eats with their families if there’s food on the table.

Recycling

All females in the year recycle. Most of them recycle paper and they recycle this at home and in school. Less boys tend to recycle.

Transport

All males use a variety of transport including the bus, car, train and bike. All of the girls take the bus and get lifts in the car. Under a third of the girls also use the train and walk.

Exercise

Everyone in the year does some sort of exercise. 20% of the males do individual sports and 30% of them do team sports. All of the females exercise in and out of school.

Illnesses and Treatments

The survey showed us that more females have been recently ill as just under half of the girls were ill within a week ago with flu. Of the males around a third were ill within a week ago. Just under half of the males were ill months ago and around a third haven’t been ill for years. Around a quarter of the females were ill weeks ago and around another quarter were ill months ago. To treat their illnesses 30% of all pupils take treatments such as Paracetamol and Lemsips. The others either rest or do nothing.

Stress

Many pupils find school work, exams and homework stressful. Some pupils get stressed when they’re arguing. The rest of the pupils find other situations stressful.

Free Time

60% of the males do not spend much time with their families. On the other hand most of the females spend time with their families, as half sometimes spend time with their families and a third always spend time with their families. All pupils spend a lot of time with their friends, doing things such as shopping and watching the television.

Alcohol and Smoking

Year nine pupils were asked “Do you or does anybody in your family drink alcohol?” 50% of the males said ‘yes’ and the type of alcohol was wine and lager. 30% of the males answered ‘sometimes’ and the alcohol was wine. 20% of the males said that nobody in their family drinks alcohol. 55% of the females answered ‘yes’ and that the alcohol was wine and lager. Some of the females’ families drink alcohol which include drinks such as vodka and Lager.

Music, films and Television

There are many different genres of music, films and television programmes and the year nine pupils were asked for their opinion. The question asked was “What type of music, films and television programmes do you like?” Here are the pupils’ opinions on films and television programmes. Most males preferred comedy and action while some preferred animated films. A third of the girls preferred comedy. The females preferred R+B music as over half chose that style. Half of the males liked rock music and another half liked R+B, hip hop and rap.

Conclusion

The conclusion we have drawn from the answers on the questions that most of the pupils are eating healthily and are keeping their body healthy by exercising. All of the pupils like spending time with their friends and most like spending time with their families. A majority of the pupils’ families drink yet only a minority of their families smoke. The pupils have mixed opinions on films, television and music. We believe that the year nine pupils live a happy and healthy lifestyle.
