Checklist for Overnight Hosts

8:30 pm -7:30am

  • Enter through the Lisbon rd. doors.
  • When you arrive, sign in on the Volunteer Log Sheet and fill out a name tag. Located on the kitchen counter in the green OSLC binder.
  • Locate Family Promise Book which is located in the Black Box on the brown counter behind the kitchen door – Review Information on guest needs
  • Find out if there are any special circumstances for the day from the Fellowship Hosts/volunteers
  • Locate the Family Promise Cell Phone in the Black Box.(Families are not allowed to call from this phone)
  • Make sure you have the cell phone with you for the evening

Evening Duties

  • Introduce yourself to families
  • Find out who is sleeping in what room.
  • Ask what their morning preferences are if it is not noted in the Family Promise book
  • Help families wind down for the evening. Children should be put to bed by 9:00 pm at the latest.
  • IF A FAMILY HAS NOT RETURNED by 9:00 PM
  • CALL your Volunteer Coordinator so they can make some follow-up phone calls. Numbers are located in the green OSLC binder.
  • Make sure the Lisbon Rd. doors are locked at 10:00 PM These are on a timer, but should be checked. (Guests who arrive after 10:00pm without permission from Family Promise are LOCKED OUT – they are aware of this rule and it is part of their agreement to abide with the schedule structure) Call your Volunteer Coordinator if you have to lock a guest out so they can follow up.
  • At 10:00 PM families should be in their rooms with the door shut. (earlier if families desire)
  • This time is FIRM. In some churches, the guests are all staying in one room, only divided by sheets. This ensures quietness for all. Also, everyone needs to get up early in the morning and needs to be rested.
  • No smoking after 10:00 PM.
  • Let guests know how they can wake you if a need arises during the night.
  • Plug in the Family Promise phone and keep it with you.
  • Put your name tag/s on the outside of your door.
  • Get some sleep.

Breakfast and Morning Duties

  • Wake guests at the time they have indicated
  • Knock on any doors of guests that have not woken by 6:30am
  • Guests shower and /or wash up at the Day Center
  • Make coffee if guests desire. Use the coffee maker on the counter next to the windows in Fellowship Hall. Directions are available in the drawer labeled “Family Promise”.
  • Make sure the GRAB AND GO breakfast items are out on the counter in Fellowship Hall .
  • This may be done the evening before. Items are on the green counter or in the metal refrigerator.
  • The toaster is located in the cupboard marked “Family Promise” in Fellowship Hall.
  • On Saturday's, plan to serve a warm breakfast at 7:00, as departure time is at 8:00 AM. Volunteers are assigned to prepare and serve this meal.
  • The residents should help with the breakfast cleanup
  • Guests should take lunches for the day (they are able to refrigerate and heat up leftovers at the Family Center.)
  • ALL guests leave at 7:00am daily, whether they are taking the Family Promise Van or driving their own vehicle. (At times the van may need to leave earlier in the morning in accordance with the guest’s schedules.) EXCEPT on Saturday when guests are picked up at 8:00 AM
  • Note: The weekly driver’s schedule is posted in the Family Promise binder.
  • Make any notes that will be helpful for the next day’s volunteers and leave in the Family Promise spiral. Be sure to leave the Family Promise phone for the next volunteers. Call you Volunteer Coordinator if anything unusual happened during the night or if you have any concerns.
  • Enter the amount of time served on Volunteer Log Sheet in kitchen behind the door.(This is necessary for Family Promise to continue to obtain grants.)
