Spanish Student exchange Oaklands – San Antonio Maria Claret

Visit to Gran Canaria October 18 – 24, 2018

We are delighted to be organising our return visit to Gran Canaria as part of our student exchange with San Antonio Maria Claret School. As it is the return visit, students who hosted our visitors last summer have priority on this visit. However, we do have spaces available to students currently in years 8, 9 and 10 studying Spanish. Should not all places be filled then there may be an opportunity to open this trip out to students in Years 8, 9 and 10 who do not currently study Spanish.

The main purpose of this exchange program is to learn about another culture, improve students’ linguistic competence and enable them to gain confidence dealing with new situations. Whilst in Gran Canaria, students will attend activities at our partner school, including sports competitions; visits to places of interest such as the Science museum and the old Town and explore areas of graphical interest on the island. The students who took part in the first leg of this exchange found it a very enriching and enjoyable experience and have made some lasting friendships.

Students will stay with a Spanish family from our partner school during their stay. The families will provide food during the stay. There is a very small chance that the dates could shift one day or so but we would inform you of this.

We anticipate the cost of the trip to be £545. This includes return flights to Gran Canaria, airport transfers and activities in Spain. A deposit of £200 will be due by Friday 22 June 2018, a second payment of £250 by Friday 13 July 2018 and the final payment of £95 by Friday 14 September 2018.

As we are limited in the number of students that we can take, I would like parents to submit an application but not send in any deposit at present. Register of interest slips must be handed in to the Finance Office by Thursday 14 June 2018. If the activity is oversubscribed, a transparent draw will take place.

Notification as to whether your child has a place will be will be communicated by Friday 15 June 2018 by email. The remainder will be put on a reserve list in the order they are drawn from the ballot.

Payments and accompanying paperwork must be handed in on or before the deadline date specified. Please do not send post-dated cheques. Should your child withdraw from the activity please be aware that payments are non-refundable unless the withdrawal is for an insurable reason. If there are significant changes to the cost of the trip, these may have to be passed on to the student. Be assured that we will try to keep such costs to a minimum.

We would advise that students do not to take valuables out on school activities, however, should they be taken parents should ensure personal possessions are adequately insured. It is the parent’s/guardian’s responsibility to update the school should there be any changes to the medical information about their child. Please communicate these to Mrs Brettell, Business Support Manager.
