Dear Parent / Guardian

Re: International Week 3-Day Field Trip to Wales

During International Week this year there will be a cross-curricular residential fieldtrip running for Year 9 students, from Monday 6th to Wednesday 8th July. The trip will visit various locations in Wales, our chosen country for 2015.

The purpose of the trip is to allow students to experience a range of places, attractions and activities in Wales, alongside improving their expertise in an array of subjects. Students will conduct important field studies which will help strengthen their understanding for the subjects of science, geography and history. Alongside this, evening activities will give students the opportunity to learn skills to aid them in English, mathematics and physical education.

The field trip will include the following visits and activities:

  • A tour of the Millennium Stadium
  • A boat trip around Cardiff Bay
  • A visit to The Big Pit National Coal Museum
  • A river investigation at Elan Valley
  • A tourism investigation in Barry Island

In the evenings, students will participate in games and activities to follow up on what they have learnt during the day.

Accommodation will be provided by the YHA Cardiff Central, a newly opened hostel in the city centre with a good range of facilities. The hostel will provide us with breakfasts, packed lunches and dinners during our stay. More information can be found at

Transport during the trip will be on minibuses driven by Tudor Grange Academy staff. Students will need to arrive at school by 8am on Monday 6th July to register and have their kit checked, before a prompt departure at 8.30am. We will arrive back at school for 6pm on Wednesday 8th July.

A detailed itinerary and a full kit list will provided before the trip commences. Please note, however, that a fully waterproof coat and walking shoes or wellington boots will be essential for this trip. Students will need to bring their usual school stationery and a packed lunch and drink for the first day of the trip. All other specialist equipment will be provided by TGAW. We do have some walking boots available to borrow but this must be arranged with the Geography department at least 3 weeks prior to the trip commencing.

Two nights’ accommodation, all transport and entrance fees are included in the trip price of £130.00. Students are able to bring a small amount of spending money if they wish, to purchase souvenirs or additional snacks. Other than a packed lunch on the first day, all meals will be included during the trip.

If you would like your child to attend this trip, please return the reply slip below with a deposit of £50 by Friday 1st May. The remaining balance of £80.00 will then be due by Friday 5th June.

Yours sincerely

Miss E Rowe
