Our class will celebrate the holidays on our last day of school before vacation with

a party during our regular class time on Thursday, December 21. For the past few years, instead of the children exchanging small gifts, we would like to donate what we would have spent on the gifts to the Daily Times Salvation Army Merry Christmas Fund to help spread some holiday cheer in our area. If you would like to make a contribution of some change or a dollar or two, please send it in an envelope labeled with "your child's name and Merry Christmas Fund" by Friday, Dec 15, 2006. We will mail our contributions together.

The children will have a holiday greeting card exchange during our party.

The Family Homework from Dec 11 to 20 is to create your own or buy greeting cards to exchange with classmates at the party. If you'd like to make your own, here are some suggestions to get you started:

*Make some cardboard shapes to trace such as a bell,

a star, a stocking, a tree or a wreath

*Trace around the shapes on old holiday greeting cards

or on construction paper

*Cut out with straight scissors or pinking shears

*Decorate with glitter, markers, stickers, yarn, ribbon, sequins, etc.

*Encourage your child to use his/her imagination!

Whether you buy cards or create your own, please encourage your child to

sign his/her own name on each card. Also, for printing practice, he/she should copy each classmate's name on an envelope or card. Cards may be sent in

any time up Wednesday, Dec. 20 to give us a chance to sort all the cards into

our mailboxes. A class list is attached for your child to copy. Others your child may want to include are Mrs. Boettger, the music teacher; Mrs. DiMartino-Wilson, the reading teacher; Mr. D'Orazio, the gym teacher; Mrs. Avicolli, the librarian;

Dr. White, the principal; Ms. Grace, the school nurse; or Mrs. Mahoney, EDK aide.

Thank you for helping your child at home with this project. The children love opening the cards and trying to read all their classmate's names and the words on each card! It is a fun party activity, too!

We hope you enjoy your holidays!

See you back in school on Tuesday, January 2, 2007.
