- The facilitator position for this subgroup is still open! If anyone is interested in being the facilitator for the group, please send Christina Hall () an email before the next meeting.
- The facilitator will help to coordinate any future subgroup meetings and will be in charge of facilitating subgroup meetings and reporting back to the full Task Force on the work of the Other Recommendations Subgroup
- The group reviewed the recommendations found in the 2014 CSA Task Force Report
- Subgroup members were interested in starting with Recommendation #4 to work on for the subgroup.
- Recommendation #4: Policies should be developed within educational institutions designed to prevent child sexual abuse by educational professionals.
- It was discussed that the CCSD school district has an HR policy for sexual harassment between teachers, and a short policy on the fact that school staff are mandated reporters if a child discloses that abuse is going on at home. However, there is nothing that deals with the policies and procedures if a staff member is accused of sexual misconduct toward a student.
- School police are authorized to “investigate” any charges that are less serious than a Class A Felony, or only in cases of alleged perpetration. Anything else (such as lewdness) does not have to be turned over to the city police force.
- Subgroup members voiced concerns that school personnel and school police may not be trained to handle these types of cases. Subgroup members mentioned researching what kind of training is required for school police and personnel regarding child sexual abuse.
- Subgroup members also discussed reaching out to administrators at the school district and with school police that could shed some light on current policies and procedures, so that the subgroup could provide recommendations to revise these policies.
- Action Steps Before Next Meeting
- Subgroup members will review the recommendations and put together a summary of which recommendations are beginning to be met based on the programs and that they are aware of in their professional capacity.
- Subgroup members will send their summaries to Christina Hall (), who will compile the summaries and send it out to subgroup members before the next meeting
- Lisa Ferriolo will reach out to the CCSD school district to find out the current training requirements for school personnel and school police regarding child sexual abuse. She will also research who is in charge of ensuring that these training requirements are met and who we can use as a contact person when we make our recommendations.
- RachellEkroos will reach out to her contact with school police to see if they would be willing to be involved in our discussion regarding this topic.
- Deadline to send Christina your summary of the recommendations:
- Monday, November 30th
- Next Meeting of the Other Recommendations Subgroup:
- Monday, January 14 @ 9:30 am
