Desdomona / ·  Iago upsets Othello more by being sexually explicit about Desdemona
·  Iago knows Othello goes into an epileptic fit when he gets upset. Iago provokes this.
·  Othello has an epileptic seizure.
·  Iago says he will get Cassio to talk about his relationship with Desdemona. He tells Othello to hide.
·  Iago is really going to get Cassio to talk about Bianca, but he will make it appear as if he is talking about Desdemona.
·  Cassio is saying that Bianca is a prostitute; Othello thinks he is talking about Desdemona.
·  Bianca enters. She is upset that Cassio wants her to copy the handkerchief. She believes that Cassio has another girlfriend and is using her.
·  Bianca says she will not copy it.
·  She exits and Cassio goes after her.
·  Iago is making it sound like Cassio is using Desdemona
·  Othello wants to poison Desdemona
·  He is going to kill Desdemona tonight
·  Iago tells him to strangle her in the bed she cheated on you with.
·  Desdemona asks her cousin, Lodovico, to help with the breach between Othello and Cassio because she loves Cassio
·  Othello strikes Desdemona
·  Lodovico wants to know if this is the same man from Venice because no one would know him.
·  Othello thinks Cyprus did this to his marriage.
·  Iago says Othello has changed. / Dynamic Character—Othello once believed in Desdemona, now he believes in Iago
Irony—Othello talks about how obedient Desdemona is.
SCENE 2___ / Othello

Roderigo / ·  Othello questions Emilia if she has seen or heard anything about Desdemona and Cassio
·  Emilia says she has not.
·  Emilia tells Othello that Desdemona is honest.
·  Othello does not believe Emilia
·  He sends her for Desdemona
·  Desdemona comes she kneels and proclaims that she is Othello’s true and loyal wife.
·  Othello tells Desdemona she is false.
·  She wants to know to whom and how?
·  Othello calls Desdemona a whore, and Emilia a brothel mistress
·  Desdemona asks Emilia to put her wedding sheets on her bed.
·  Desdemona tells Iago that Othello called her a whore. She asks Iago if she is one.
·  Desdemona asks Iago what she can do to win Othello back.
·  Iago tells her to be content that Othello is upset by the business of the state.
·  Roderigo is mad at Iago. He has wasted his money and jewels and has not received anything in return
·  Iago tells Roderigo he will see a return from Desdemon in two days, but Othello and Desdemona are returning to Venice and he must kill Cassio in order for them to have a reason to stay.
·  Iago agrees / Foil—Iago and Desdemona are foils when they kneel and proclaim their loyalty to Othello. Desdemona is true to her word, but Iago is not at all.

Lodovico / ·  Othello tells Desdemona to go to bed and dismiss Emilia.
·  Desdemona sings a song of forsaken love that her mother’s maid used to sing
·  Desdemona does not believe there are women who abuse their husbands.
·  Emilia says she would abuse her husband if he used her.
ACT # 5__ / CHARACTERS / KEY EVENTS / LITERARY DEVICES
SCENE 1__ / Iago
Roderigo
Cassio / ·  Iago and Roderigo are waiting to kill Cassio
·  Iago doesn’t care if Roderigo or Cassio die, he will gain from either.
·  Roderigo stabs Cassio, but does not hurt him too much.
·  Cassio stabs Roderigo
·  Iago stabs Cassio in the leg and leaves
·  Othello believes “honest” Othello has killed Cassio because Iago is loyal. Othello is now going to kill Desdemona.
·  Iago has gone home and changed into his night shirt
·  Iago stabs Roderigo because Roderigo can tell his whole story.
·  Iago questions Cassio and tries to make it seem as if Roderigo’s death is Bianca’s fault
·  Iago realizes that his plan will either work or he will be found out / Dramatic Irony—Iago is mending Cassio’s wound
SCENE 2___ / Othello

Cassio / ·  Othello is going to kill Desdemona so she will not betray more men.
·  He will kill her without shedding her blood.
·  Othello tells Desdemona to pray
·  She wants to know what she should pray for.
·  She does not know why Othello wants to kill her.
·  Othello accuses her of giving Cassio the handkerchief.
·  Desdemona says she never cheated on Cassio or loved Cassio. She wants Othello to get Cassio to prove it.
·  Desdemona realizes she is dead and Cassio is betrayed
·  Othello smothers Desdemona with a pillow.
·  Emilia has come to tell Othello about Roderigo’s death. She sees Desdemona on her death bed.
·  Desdemona asks Emilia to “commend me to my kind lord”
·  Othello tells Emilia he has killed Desdemona He tells her Desdemona was a whore.
·  Emilia says Desdemona was loyal. She wants to know where he heard these lies.
·  Emilia says she will make it know that Othello killed Desdemona though she has lost twenty lives.
·  Othello tells her Iago told him.
·  Emilia confronts Iago and he tells her to go home.
·  Emilia tells Othello she found the handkerchief and gave it to Iago
·  Iago kills Emilia by stabbing her. She requests to be put next to Desdemona
·  Othello calls Iago a devil and stabs him
·  Iago does not die and says he will never speak a word about what has happened.
·  Gratiano says he will be tormented until he speaks.
·  Cassio will decide the fate of Iago
·  Othello stabs himself and kisses Desdemona as he dies.
·  Cassion is promoted to lord governor / Metaphor—put out the light, and then put out the light. Othello is referring to putting out the candle and putting out Desdemona’s light.
