Applied Learning Experience
In order to maximize the benefits of this experience to the student, we ask that you considerthis an Applied Learning Experiencefor the Keeping it REAL program (Real-World Experiences Applied to Learning). Please refer to the REAL website for details ( choice to also consider this project for the REAL program is not considered in the decision to fund the project.
Would you like for this application to be considered for the REAL program?
Explain what you willdo as a mentor to help the student be able to do the following at the end of the experience (these typically involve regular conversations with the student to help them develop their ability to reflect upon the role of their various educational components):
- Students will analyze how the applied learning experience enabled them to apply what they learned from their courses, both in major and core curriculum areas, and from their extracurricular experiences to the real world.

- Students will evaluate how the applied learning experience expanded their views of academic, political, social, cultural, and/or economic environments and prepared them to contribute more meaningfully to a global society.

At the end of the experience, students will submit (to an e-portfolio) a written reflection addressing these two student learning outcomes (which the faculty mentor will assess) and submit at least one artifact (report, presentation, poster, etc.)
Mentors should also strive to help the student develop the following research-related skills:
- Identify and summarize background information related to their research question or problem
- Develop a research plan to address their question or problem
- Collect and interpret data in an attempt to address their question or problem.
- Articulate findings in written or oral form
- Demonstrate awareness of the importance of ethical behavior in conducting research
