Organisation and Delivery of PSE

PSE is delivered in a number of ways across the key stages. These include:

1.National Curriculum subjects

Opportunities for PSE are highlighted in departmental schemes of work.

2.Delivery as part of the formal PSE programme

At KS3 the timetable is collapsed to deliver PSE Week. This is followed by the complementary ICE Week programme of activities. Both programmes are delivered by all teachers with certain guest speakers.

3.Enrichment Programme

These sessions in Years 10 and 11, cover PSE, WBQ, RE short course and aspects of key skills. The sessions form part of the KS4 curriculum. Pupils have two Enrichment Programme lessons per week and they are delivered by subject specialists. As part of these sessions opportunities for development of the Wider Key Skills.

4.Specialist input by guest speakers in discrete sessions

Contributions from external agencies provide expert input eg. School Police Liaison Officer, Young Peoples Health Advisor, Denbighshire International Coordinator, on topics such as Global Citizenship, Substance Misuse, Keeping Safe, Hygiene etc.

5.Focus Days

These days enhance the profile of PSE and link learning to real life situations. The programme includes Sexual Health Day, Healthy Living Day, International Day, Enterprise Day and Crucial Crew. All of these sessions are delivered by professionals in their field, supported – as appropriate – by school staff.

6.PSE sessions

Year 12 and Year 13 students have presentations which cover aspects of PSE and involve guest speakers.

A programme of themes, which focus on various aspects of PSE and Citizenship, is issued to staff and is used to plan assemblies.
