COLORADO-WYOMING OPTIMIST JUNIOR GOLF
PREPARES FORDISTRICT 2017 QUALIFYING TOURNAMENTS
The Colorado-Wyoming District Optimist Junior Golf Program serves almost300 junior golfers each year, with the 2017 District qualifying tournaments scheduled for Thursday, June 15, (boys ages 14 - 18) at Flatirons Golf Course in Boulder and Friday, June 16, at Fitzsimons Golf Course in Aurora (boys ages 10 - 13 and girls ages 10 - 18).
An additional25 - 30 junior golfers participate in pre-qualifying tournamentsin Loveland and Fort Morgan, sponsored by Optimist Clubs in those areas.
The Colorado-Wyoming District Optimist Junior Golf Programis totally self-funded. Because we will be sendingup to 66 junior golfers to the 2017Optimist International Junior Golf Championships (commonly referred to as THE OPTIMIST) at the PGA National Resortin Palm Beach Gardens, Florida(home of the PGA’s Honda Classic), we need to raise about $40,000.
Each year, THE OPTIMIST fields over 650 of the world’s best junior golfers. Past age group winners atTHEOPTIMIST (and its predecessor, the Optimist Junior World Golf Championships) include Denver’s own Mark Hubbard, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Davis Love III,David Toms, Jason Day, Emiliano Grillo, Lorena Ochoa, Nancy Lopez, Brittany Lincicome, Lexi Thompson, and Brooke Henderson, among dozens of prominent PGA and LPGA golfers.
Various fundraisers are used to defray expenses for the local qualifying tournaments and for sending junior golfers to THEOPTIMIST. An adult golf tournament isscheduled for Monday, June 5, at Broken Tee Golf Course in Englewood. TwoOptimist Days at the Rockies will be held this year…Sunday, May 28, against the St Louis Cardinals and Sunday, July 9, against the Chicago White Sox.
We also solicit title, hole, banner, and player sponsors for the qualifying tournaments at Fitzsimons and Flatirons. Many Optimist Clubs, individual Optimists and Friends of Optimists, or their businesses are either title, hole, banner, or player sponsors at the qualifying tournaments.
In addition, we solicit donationsat the annual Denver Golf Expo, from local golf courses, Optimist clubs and members, and the general public.
