Hello Fellow Optimists!
Our first quarter district meeting will be at the Boys & Girls Home in Lake Waccamaw on Friday, October 28th and Saturday, October 29th. Please make plans to attend! Registration forms may be found on the NC East District Web site. We are extending the early-bird deadline from Oct. 15th until Oct. 20th, to give everyone ample time to submit their registrations.
We have lots of fun things planned for this meeting. We plan to meet for dinner at 5 pm on Friday at Dale’s Seafood which is right across from the Boys & Girls Home and is overlooking the beautiful lake. The food at Dale’s is really good and I am looking forward to it!
**Dale’s Seafood does have some high water issues right now, due to Matthew. They are working to restore the restaurant and with 2 ½ weeks to go before we meet, I believe they will. I pledge to you that I will keep you current on their progress, (or lack thereof) through your Lt. Governors, and they will in turn notify your club presidents. Alternate locations have been suggested, so plan "B" is at the ready.
After dinner, the Executive Board will meet for about an hour and all others can take time to look over the auction items, take care of registration or just stroll around the lake or the campus.
The auction will begin around 7:30 pm and all proceeds will go to the OI Foundation. We are asking that each club donate something for the auction, which can be homemade items, baked items or just extra items you may want to clear out of your own homes.
On Saturday morning we will begin our regular business meeting at 8:30 am. We will present our proposed budget for the coming year and hear from our committee chairpersons. We will wrap up our business meeting at noon and head outside where we will enjoy a wonderful lunch provided by the Boys and Girls Home with Optimists doing the grilling. After lunch the Rockstar Magicians will be presenting their magic show for the Optimist kids and the Optimists. These magicians are the most popular magicians in the Carolinas. The magic show is scheduled from 1:30-2:30 pm. After the magic show tours of the campus and Optimist cottage will be available for those who wish to see firsthand the reality of how our contributions to the Boys & Girls Home helps children who really need a safe place to live, grow and thrive.
I really hope to see many of you in Lake Waccamaw! Come out and enjoy the beautiful campus of the Boys & Girls Home and experience great food and fellowship with other Optimists from all over eastern NC. On a personal note, I would like to show the NC West District just how awesome we are in the East District by having a healthy turn-out. The West District members will be at the cookout on Saturday and it would be great if we can outnumber them!
