GENERAL

The City of Kettering’s Award winning Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Departmentis recruiting to fill the regular full-time position of “Parks Superintendent.”The Parks Superintendent is a professional and administrative position responsible for directing park projects, strategic planning and oversight of all park operations, maintenance and construction of neighborhood and community parks, sports fields, public grounds, median areas and over 480 acres of open space. The Superintendent is responsible for creating and executing the capital improvement plan for the Parks Division and management of the yearly $3 million budget. This position is responsible for the general management of the Parks Division including supervision and development of all employees involved in the care and maintenance of the City parks, playgrounds, gardens, medians, tree lines and all designated open spaces, as well as the physical properties and equipment utilized by the Division. This position also manages the City-wide environmental education facilities and programs and works closely with Kettering City Schools on the Land Lab program. The Parks Superintendent reports to and works under the general guidance of the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Director.

The Parks Superintendent participates in all Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts leadership functions, including but not limited to department long-range planning, training, management, budget and administrative procedures and process review.

QUALIFICATIONS

Thorough knowledge of general management principles, project and operations oversight. Knowledge of landscaping, construction, pond management, horticulture, general parks and ground maintenance a plus. Considerable supervisory experience, strategic planning and professional development required. Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills; ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing; and the ability to logically and independently plan, organize and complete multiple assignments in a timely manner.Must possess high initiative, well-developed interpersonal skills, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City officials, employees and the general public.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university strongly desired. Master’s degree preferred. Significant project management in parks operations and management and/or supervisory experience in combination with other leadership education and training may be considered in lieu of academic degrees.

COMPENSATION

The current pay for this position ranges from $31.21/hr. ($64,917/yr.) up to $48.10/hr. ($100,048/yr.). Starting rate is contingent upon the candidate’s related skills, education, knowledge, and abilities. Excellent Benefits.
