Online Resource 2. Pair-wise comparisons of the adjusted probabilities of species rank-abundance (bottom diagonal) and, large and small trees (upper diagonal) between all swamp forest patches sampled in the Black River Lower Morass, Jamaica. (Test: Chi-squared, with a 95% CI). Bold fonts represent comparisons that are statistically significant.

Online Resource 3. Renyi diversities for the different swamp forests patches sampled in the Black River Lower Morass, Jamaica. Numbers at the top of each panel indicate respective patch number. The open circles show the values for sites, and the lines the extremes (minimum and maximum) and median in the data set.

Online Resource 4. Box-whisker plots of frequency (a) and local abundance (b) of indicator and non-indicator species found in each swamp forest patch. Frequency is calculated as the proportion of sample plots where a particular species occurred in the Black River Lower Morass, Jamaica. In all ten swamp forests fragments, frequency and abundance of indicator species were significantly higher than those of non-indicator species (Wilcoxon rank sum test with continuity correction; *** = p< 0.001).

Online Resource 6. Relative abundance distribution models for each swamp forest patch (patch numbers are given at the top of each panel). Dots show the relative abundance of the tree species and the solid line represents the null model.
