One Hundred Day Challenge DAY 5

POST 64:

Good morning! Welcome to Day 5 of our week long event! Today we will be talking about Shaklee's one-of-a-kind Get Clean Kit as well as Shaklee's commitment to helping the environment. As you heard on Day 1 of our event, one of Shaklee's pillars for each and every one of thier products is that they are Always Green. Shaklee was green before “being green” was the thing to be. In 2000, Shaklee became the first company in the world to obtain Climate Neutral™ certification and totally offset its CO2 emissions. This means that Shaklee leaves no carbon footprint on the earth. So, not only are you getting safe, high-quality products, but you are getting them from a company that truly cares about the environment!

POST 65:

Shaklee has joined forces with others who care greatly for the environment, like Jacques Cousteau, and 2004 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Dr. Wangari Maathai, the founder of The Green Belt Movement and the first person to win a Nobel Peace Prize for the environment. And, Shaklee’s continuous environmental leadership is being recognized. Check out what we’ve achieved:
- 1 million trees planted through our "Million Trees. Million Dreams.™ Campaign" with 2004 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Dr. Wangari Maathai
- Shaklee has been designated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as one of the Top 20 Green Companies in the US.
- In 2010, Shaklee was honored as an Industry Innovator by Climate Counts for the company’s leadership in taking voluntary action to address climate change.
- Shaklee has received The Clean Air Award for Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reductions from Breathe California
- Shaklee has received The Stevie Award for Best Corporate Environmental Responsibility Program

POST 66:

In an effort to provide products that are Always Safe, Always Green and Always Work, Dr. Shaklee created the first non-toxic household cleaner, Basic H and the entire Get Clean Line was born from there. There is a lot more info to come about all of the products in this amazing product line, but first let's talk a little about the what else is out there.
Home should be the safest place in the world, but unfortunately our homes are filled with toxins. You know that amazing feeling you get when you’ve just cleaned your house? Sorry to spoil it, but you may have just made your home dirtier. Think of it this way…you wouldn’t let your kids play with toxic chemicals, so why would you let a child crawl over a floor that’s just been wiped with them? That’s much more dangerous than the orange juice or Cheerios that were just there.
Please take a moment to watch this eye-opening video!

POST 67:

It is unfortunate, but true…there are so many dangerous, toxic chemicals in our environment that we are susceptible to, that our children are even more susceptible to, and our babies are especially susceptible to. With over 81,000 chemicals registered in the past 30 years and fewer than ¼ of them being tested for toxicity, as consumers and parents we need to inform ourselves and do our part to protect those we love.

Just how dangerous are chemicals in household products?
• Over 90% of poison exposures happen at home.
• Common bleach is the #1 household chemical involved in poisoning.
• Organic pollutants, found in many common cleaners and even air fresheners, are 2 to 5 times higher inside your home than out.
• A person who spends 15 minutes cleaning scale off shower walls could inhale three times the “acute one-hour exposure limit” for glycol ether-containing products set by the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment.
• Common cleaners give off fumes that have been linked to increasing the risk of your kids developing asthma, the most common serious chronic childhood disease. In fact, 1 in 13 school-aged children has asthma. Rates in children under age 5 increased more than 160% from 1980-1994.
• Children are highly vulnerable to chemical toxins. Pound for pound of body weight, children drink more water, eat more food, and breathe more air than adults. The implication of this is that children will have substantially heavier exposures than adults to any toxins that are present in our water, food, and air.

POST 68:

Another scary fact...not only do toxins affect our respiratory systems, but they affect our brains. This child's handwriting samples were taken after he was exposed to household cleaners, then after those cleaners were removed, and again after they were re-introduced.

POST 69:

Shaklee’s Get Clean line of non-toxic cleaning and laundry products are SAFE for you, your home, your pets, your children, and the environment…they truly ensure that your home is the safest place on Earth. They PERFORM BETTER than store brand cleaners and are A LOT LESS EXPENSIVE…which I’ll be demonstrating in posts to follow. Plus, with Get Clean, you can have your kids clean the house with you! Check out this video to hear a little more...

POST 70:

Its my favorite time! Time for some testimonies!
Our very own CEO, Roger Barnett and his wife, Sloan experienced the terror of having to rush their son to the emergency room due to difficulty breathing, and doctors said he was developing asthma. They went on a mission to find out why, since they did not have any family history of asthma, and discovered the toxic chemicals they were cleaning their home with were the culprits. Hear their story, as told on Oprah’s Earth Day Special in 2007. (Get Clean is one of Oprah’s favorite things!)

POST 71:

Another outstanding testimony! As a mother, I know the helpless feeling you have when you can't help a sick child. That is one of the many reasons I am so touched every time I hear Lauren's story. She is a true example of how making small changes can transform your life! Her son Chase is now an 8 year old healthy boy who just ran his first 5K…but that wasn’t the case 4 years ago….

POST 72:

Ok...so now we know that Get Clean products are SAFE, but you are probably wondering, "Do they WORK?" The answer is Shaklee product ALWAYS WORK! Shaklee did third-party performance testing against leading brands with an independent lab. Get Clean products outperformed 20 national brands.

Here are a few details:
- Germ Off Disinfecting Wipes are 34% better than Seventh Generation Disinfecting Wipes and 17% better than Lysol Disinfecting Wipes at soil removal.
- Hand Dish Wash Liquid Concentrate is 52% more effective than both Clorox Green Works and Method, 45% better than Seventh Generation, and 41% better than Ultra Palmolive Pure + Clear.
- It takes more than 2 1/2 boxes (45 oz each) of Cascade to clean the same 48 loads as one bag of Shaklee Dish Washer Automatic Concentrate.
- Fresh Laundry Concentrate can be used as a stain remover as well as a detergent. As a stain remover it is 46% better than OxiClean and 33% better than Resolve. As a detergent it is comparable to Method, All Small & Mighty Free Clear, Tide Free & Gentle, and Whole Foods brand.

POST 73:

We have talked about how SAFE and EFFECTIVE Get Clean Products are. Now, let's talk about how GREEN they are. If you watched the Get Clean video, you probably saw some of this information but it is just too good not to point out again! If your home is anything like the average U.S. home, you generate more than 20 pounds of household hazardous waste each year (the EPA designates toilet cleaners, tub and tile cleaners, oven cleaners, and bleach as hazardous waste). Because Get Clean products are non-toxic and super concentrated, when you purchase a Get Clean Starter Kit, you keep 108 pounds of packaging waste from landfills and eliminate 248 pounds of greenhouse gas! SAFE, EFFECTIVE, GREEN – It’s a win all the way around!

POST 74:

ARE THEY EXPENSIVE?
Regular cleaners cost a lot…“green” versions can cost even more. Shaklee’s Get Clean products are less expensive than both! In fact, they are extremely cost effective. To get the cleaning power in the $99 Get Clean Starter Kit, you’d have to spend $3,400 at the grocery store!

For example, 1 bottle of concentrated Basic H2 makes 5,824 26 oz. bottles of Windex. You would spend more than $23,000 for that many bottles of Windex. Yet one bottle of Basic H2 is $10.35 Member Price. Plus it works better than Windex and doesn’t leave a single streak! Even if you use vinegar and water to clean with, you are paying 50x more than you would if you used Basic H2!

POST 75:

A SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT LAUNDRY
Tell me if I’m wrong...I think we are often more reluctant to change laundry detergent brands, right? I was a Tide girl all the way…it’s the only brand I had ever tried that I thought really got the job done. But when I was concerned about my kids allergies and asthma and learned that there are chemicals in laundry detergent that he was probably breathing in from his clothes and even while he was laying on his sheets at night, I knew I didn’t have a choice…I had to switch to Shaklee’s Get Clean products. I didn’t expect them to work as well…but they do! (And I would not lie to you.) Jessica's allergies and asthma symptoms are almost nonexistent, Matthew doesn't have the constant running nose, and Ella's chronic eczema disappeared.

Comment: I should have pointed out that when you use Get Clean laundry, you don't need to have one detergent for you and one detergent for your babies, it is safe for infants through adults and animals too.

POST 76:

GET CLEAN WATER
Did you know that harmful chemicals and metals lurk in our drinking water? With its sustainable coconut-shell carbon filter, our Get Clean system produces great tasting water while reducing 99% of lead and over 50 other contaminants—and it saves more than 2,400 plastic bottles from the landfill.

My kids call Get Clean Water "fresh water." We take our pitcher on vacation with us, and have a separate pitcher at our beach house. Yes, it makes that big of a difference in the taste!
