Little Daisy

Once upon a time there was a little girl called Daisy.

Early one morning, Daisy’s mother asked her to take a basket of food to her Grandmother’s house.

So, her mother put in the basket a loaf of bread, some cheese, a bottle of milk and a handful of ripe, red, juicy cherries. She covered the basket with a cloth to keep all the goodies safe inside.

Then, Daisy walked into the forest. There she met a mouse. ‘Squeak, squeak!I’mhungry,’ said the mouse. ‘What have you got in your basket?’

‘I’ve got a loaf of bread, some cheese and a bottle of milk,’ said Daisy. But she kept the cherries hidden.

‘I’ll have the cheese,’ said the mouse. So Daisy gave the cheese to the mouse.

Next, she walked over the bridge. There she met a cat.

‘Miaow! I’m hungry,’ said the cat. ‘What have you got in your basket?’

‘I’ve got a loaf of bread and a bottle of milk,’ said Daisy. But she kept the cherries hidden.

‘I’ll have the milk,’ said the cat. So Daisy gave the milk to the cat.

Next, she walked past the pond. There she met a duck. ‘Quack, quack! I’mhungry,’ said the duck. ‘What have you got in your basket?’

‘I’ve got a loaf of bread,’ said Daisy. But she kept the cherries hidden.

‘I’ll have the loaf of bread,’ said the duck. So Daisy gave the loaf of bread to the duck.

Next, she walked past the church. There was nobody there. ‘Mmmm! I’mhungry,’said Daisy to herself. So she pulled back the cloth and took out a handful of ripe, red, juicy cherries and ate them all up.

Soon, Daisy reached her Granny’s house.

‘Hello Daisy,’ said Granny. ‘I’m hungry – ah, you have brought mesomething to eat!’ Granny looked into the basket. ‘Oh dear,’ she said. ‘Only stones for tea!’
