March For Life - 2010
Washington, DC
On January 20th thirty-nine students and adults traveled to Washington, DC for the National March For Life. The trip was amazing and will not be forgotten.
It was more than a sight-seeing tour and more like a pilgrimage with our emphasis on the Right to Life. The group celebrated daily Mass with Fr. Tommy and on Thursday evening attended the Vigil Mass at the National Shrine of Immaculate Conception Basilica with Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, the Archbishop of Galveston-Houston, presiding. The opening procession lasted approximately 45 minutes with the hundreds of seminarians, deacons, priests, bishops and cardinals attending. The Mass was beautiful and was the highlight of the trip for some of the students.
On Friday the group attended the rally and the March. There were numerous women speakers belonging to the group “Silent No More” who spoke about the detrimental effects of their own abortions, and the lies that they are told prior to their decisions. Also speaking were 21 Congressmen and women, and religious leaders of various Christian denominations, as well as rabbis representing the Orthodox Jewish community. Many of the students were amazed at the number of people who were not Catholic and supported this important cause.
On behalf of the youth of our community, a huge “THANK YOU” is extended to everyone who made this trip possible: supporters of the fundraisers, organizers, parents, chaperones, and the students. Thank you also to the Srs. Catherine, Ann, and Mary Anthony, Fr. Tommy for his spiritual guidance during the trip, and to Fr. Bob for planting the seed of this trip five years ago and his support.
