THE TERTIARY EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP TRUST FOR MALAWI

(TEST FOR MALAWI)

TEST for MALAWI is pleased to announce the award of 202 Scholarships with a total value of more than 20 million Kwatcha to bright but needy students to attend public Universities in Malawi. In making this announcement, Robert Kafakoma, the Chairman of TEST for MALAWI together with his fellow Trustees Mr Daulos Mauambeta, Ms Rose Bell, Dr Address Malata and Mr Tarsizius Nampota, pointed out that this was remarkable given that TEST only began it’s activities just over two years ago.

The 202 Scholarships have been awarded to both new and continuing students who demonstrate both remarkable academic performance and clear financial need, and who have committed to remain in Malawi to work for the social and economic development of their communities and country upon their graduation.

TEST for MALAWI Trustees note that despite their aim to award 60% of the Scholarships to women, only 36% of these Scholarships have been granted to women, reflecting a shortfall in female applicants. They are calling for many more females to apply in future years.

The breakdown of the 202 Scholarship awards is as follows:

35 Scholarships at The Medical College

46 at Kamuzu College of Nursing

38 at Lilongwe College of Agriculture and Natural Resources

34 at Chancellor College

25 at Mzuzu University

24 at The Malawi Polytechnic

TEST wish to thank the following donors who have facilitated this record number of Scholarship awards:

  • Tertiary Educational Scholarship Trust for Africa (TEST for AFRICA)
  • The Travers family in memory of their late mother, Jennifer Auronwyn Travers
  • FUN(D)RAISERS of Belgium

NOTE TO EDITORS:
TEST for MALAWI is a Malawian charity which was formed in 2009 by a group of Malawian graduates from Linacre College, Oxford University who have a common belief that making tertiary education readily available to bright but needy students who are prepared to make a long term commitment to serving their communities and their country will accelerate the social and economic development of Malawi. TEST’s awards are limited to those fields of study which the Trustees feel are essential for the social and economic development of both communities and the country are made for undergraduate studies at public University only. All Trustees and the Trusts’ partners operate on a pro-bono basis such that 100% of all donations received are disbursed for education. The awards are gender biased towards female applicants in the ratio 60/40.
