OLD WILSONIANS’ TENNIS COLTS

We would like to offer your child membership of the Old Wilsonians’ Lawn Tennis Club as a Tennis Colt. Becoming a Tennis Colt is a very enjoyable way for your child to start looking after their health through developing a lifelong habit of exercising. Tennis Colts will do this whilst having fun and learning a skill that will add to their social life throughout their entire life.

At Old Wilsonians we have coaching sessions for youngsters aged five upwards. These sessions take place after the end of the school day from around 3.45pm and on Saturday mornings at present. Our wet weather programme (using the indoor squash court facilities) means these sessions take place whatever the weather. We also have weekday camps for youngsters during the school holidays, where a range of sports and activities can be enjoyed.

All youngsters who wish to be part of our coaching programme MUST become members of the club. All group coaching sessions are ONLY offered at a lower member’s rate.

Membership offers a terrific deal to parents. For a payment of just £40 a year, our Colts membership allows:

a)ALL children in the family who are at primary school on the 1 April in the year they join, or renew, their membership to be a Tennis Colt. Tennis Colts can play at any time, subject to court availability. Tennis balls and rackets are provided by the club within the membership fee. If a child has moved to secondaryschool at the time they renew their membership they become a full Junior member.

b)the parents (whether one or two) to play tennis with their children as much as possible

c)parents to be social members of the Old Wilsonians’ Association – and use the clubhouse and bar whenever it is open. As you may know, it is open every evening except some Fridays and, in the summer, all day on most weekends. You will also receive invitations to take part in any social events that all the sports clubs put on. You can see more of what is going on at

As members of the tennis club, Tennis Colts will be able to use the courts at any time to play each other or any other paid up member, subject to availability. We also encourage parents to play with their children as much as possible. Parents of Colts may play tennis with their own children on the hard courts only withoutpaying the normal visitor fees. You can see, therefore, that this membership is great value for money.

We have a Junior Coordinator who supervises a Junior Club session on Saturday afternoons for members only. The club also organises box leagues and other social tennis activity for Colts and Juniorsand theJunior Coordinator is always keen to hear (and provide) what Colts and Junior members want from him.

In order to obtain membership, you will need to complete the enclosed membership application form. That includes sections so you can give us all the data we need to make sure your child is properly looked after and kept safe.

You will see there is also a box on the form about becoming a member of British Tennis. As a club we are encouraged by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) to help our members join British Tennis – which is part of the LTA. Membership is free and brings certain benefits in terms of discounted tickets for tennis events. Indeed, ONLY British Tennis members are entitled to purchase the Wimbledon tickets that the club is allocated each year.

British Tennis will also maintain a record of all the games your child plays so s/he can watch their progress over time and check that they are improving. And if your child wishes to represent the club, membership of British Tennis is a mandatory requirement. So we would ask that you allow us to register your child with British Tennis.

In addition, if adults wish to become full tennis-playing members of the club, the options are all explained on our website If you join part way through the year the annual membership fees are charged on a pro rata basis.
