ITD 3613 Emerging and Converging Technologies

Students with opportunities to explore emerging and converging information technologies and their implications. Topics vary by academic term.

Course Purpose:

The purpose of this course is to engage the student in the basic, foundation-level knowledge of the concepts of IT service management contained within ITIL* 2011and have them put them into practice.

Type of course: Theory/Lab.

Credit Hours: 3; Total hours of theory per semester: 30;

Total hours of lab for the semester: 45; Total hours of clinical per semester: 0.

COURSE ACTIVITIES

In this course students will:

Ø  Participate in discussion boards using material contained in the Online Classroom, Course Book, and from supplied reference materials

Ø  Participate (individually and as a member of a team) in the development of various IT projects.

Ø  Utilize the computer and the latest technologies to develop critical research and problem solving skills for their projects.

Ø  Participate in self-assessment and team assessment activities for the various projects.

Ø  Compile a portfolio of work produced individually and as a member of a team.

EVALUATION - GRADES WILL BE BASED ON THE QUALITY AND COMPLETION

*The student’s grade for this assignment will be used in the university’s assessment of student learning. A 70% competency or higher receives a Pass rating. This Pass/Fail rating is independent of the student’s course grade.

Daily and/or weekly quizzes, small weekly assignments and similar type projects: Normal return time to student no later than one (1) week.

Extensive assignments, large lab projects, extensive quizzes, exams and similar type projects: Normal return time to students in one (1) to two (2) weeks.

RECOMMENDED STUDENT COMPENTENCIES/SKILLS

Ability to utilize the internet competently to research and retrieve information, use Microsoft Word or a similar word processing software package to create and/or modify documents and save them in a .doc or .docx format (PDF documents are not to be submitted for grading), use of a presentation software such as PowerPoint will be needed at different times but definitely for the Final Project, and the ability to record work produced on the computer both with audio and video inputs will be needed by the time the Final Project is being created.

AUTHORIZED TOOLS

Students may use any/all course materials, including books and notes, while participating in classroom activities. All quizzes and written assignments are to be completed independently; no collaboration with classmates is permitted and any instance of such will be considered academic dishonesty.

LATE WORK

Instructor Policy: Turning in your properly executed work early is always acceptable. All exams, assignments, papers and projects must be completed and submitted by the specified due date; late work will not be accepted after the due date. It is the student’s responsibility to maintain and protect all their work and electronic files. Exceptions for late work are the same that would be encountered in the workforce: jury duty, military duty, hospital stay, and required activities in another department. It is your responsibility to notify your instructor to make alternate arrangements in advance if these events cause you to miss class. If the instructor grades an assignment, you have submitted before the due date, you DO NOT have the ability to modify the assignment to increase your grade
