OK, on to the 2nd edition of the Chipstead Football Club newsletter and already there has been one major change to note.

The club have decided to again run a senior reserve team. The decision was in response to the excellent turn out of players at both training and in friendly matches.

The re-formed 2nds will be placed in Division One of the Sevenoaks & District Football League and will play their home games at the club's main ground in Chipstead.

This gives us a larger pool of players to support the 1st team squad, and allows us to introduce younger players to adult football at a local level.

We still need to find a manager for the reserve team so if interested, or you know someone who might be, please let us know.

Introducing some of our Sponsors..

The Bricklayers Arms have been excellent sponsors of Chipstead FC for a number of years now.

The Bricklayers Arms is a family friendly village pub situated in the heart of the village opposite Chipstead Sailing Lake. We take pride in being part of our community and always support local charities and causes, having raised over £5000 for charity this year alone. It has been an eventful year with the refurbishment of our restaurant in February, weddings, golf days, 3 Peaks Challenge and our very popular annual party in July. We are now eagerly anticipating Christmas, which is always very merry, filled with mulled wine, our blazing open log fire and plenty of parties!

The Bricklayers is open all day, every day and serves food 12-2:30 and 6-9:30 Monday to Saturday as well as a traditional Sunday roast 12-3:30 every week.

We also offer outside catering and can host private functions in our separate dining area. With regular events and offers there is something for everyone. From steak night to burger night to takeaway fish n’ chips to quiz night to live music to space hopper competitions – it’s never boring at The Bricks!.

Update from Club Chairman –

Here we are again with the start of yet another season.

Our 1sts suffered a 3-1 opening day defeat away to Snodland, the game being played in torrential rain for most of the 90 minutes, which well and truly signalled the end of summer. If that was bad, it got even worse the week after with a dismal 6-1 thrashing away to Stansfeld. Despite these 2 defeats, morale was still very good within the squad and there was a steely determination within the ranks to make amends for a poor start. A 3rd successive away fixture saw Chipstead finally produce a performance of note as they returned victorious with a 2-0 result against Bromley Green, new signing Willie Chisesa netting a brace. Manager Percy Dalton was absolutely delighted with his team’s performance. On 21stSeptember the 1sts were in action at Chipstead for the first time, newly promoted Erith 147 providing the opposition in a 1-1 draw.

An excellent response to pre-season training and friendlies led to us resurrecting our 2nd team. Their season started on Saturday 21st September with a defeat away to Dunton Green, however the young side will definitely get better over the coming weeks.

Meanwhile our Veterans team kicked off their campaign with a win away at Warlingham. They will be hoping to do better this season with a more stable squad.

Saturday morning junior football coaching kicked off again on September 7th with a good turnout. It’s not often that I miss a Saturday morning, but my daughter’s wedding had to come first on this occasion!

This year we will be running teams from U8 through to U18, competing in the Crowborough and Tandridge Leagues. The popularity of the club continues to grow, such that we have had to introduce additional teams at U8, U9 (x 2) and U11. I would estimate our junior numbers this year rising to around 270, which is a tribute to all the good work done by the coaches, managers and officers of the club.

Since opening the new pavilion, we have always tried to tempt parents to stay and watch on Saturday mornings by providing a mix of bacon & sausage rolls, hot & cold drinks and confectionery. Whilst this has been extremely popular, we felt there was room for improvement.

We are therefore delighted that Jason Botting, who runs the Bojangles café in Dunton Green, has agreed to come in and run our kitchen on Saturdays.

Rolls with assorted fillings, cakes, coffees and teas and much more could prove very tempting.

Who’s WHO? - Billy Chapman.

Billy, you're managing the U12s this year and playing still for the senior team, what are your hopes for this season ?

“I’m hoping this season will be better than last, we lost so many players to school football it was hard for the boys to be consistant. Now we are playing Sundays, we have a good chance of picking up some silverware. The 1st teamhave a new manager and he has bought in new young players, as much as I feel I can play in the Kent premier division, he has different options so I think I will be playing vets this season.”

This is your 18th year at chipstead, what attracted you, and kept you at the club ?

“I was at sevenoaks and found the club to be to clicky, so decided to sign for Chipstead. The reason why I have stayed so long is that its a well run club with fantastic back room staff like Alan. When I first started I used toget into a few scuffles here and there and you can always rely on 100% backing along with managers and players! One thing we have always had is good banter in the changing room even when it was in the old shed !”

you must have seen plenty of ups and downs over the

..years, whats been the best moment for you ?

“Best moment would have to be when we were playing Wickham Park at Chipstead on a Tuesday night, it was peeing down and we were 5-0 down at half time. We won 7-6! Never forget that night!

As manager I ran the 2nds for one season and took us from bottom of the table up to 4th and into the charity cup final for the 1st time, Gutted we lost to Otford 3-1.”

And what about the low points, any disappointments ?

“low points -never won a trophy!”

Any recent football news ??

“Gary Wright, a few dads and I took the boys to Thorpe Park for their end of season do which was a great day.We followed up with a presentation evening at the Bricklayers which included a 3 course meal and a few drinks.”

And finally, what do you get up to away from footy ??

“Away from football I’ve tried boxing and like going to watch Millwall. I cant wait till my two youngest start playing..Riley will start next season, he and Chase are showing real talent they must get from their dad!”

Oxted/Raw Soccer Skills Pre-Season Tournament – 8th Sept 2013

Chipstead U9 Eagles put in a fine team performance to win this pre-season tournament against some very strong opposition from Oxted and Raw Soccer skills.

The Eagles started strongly in the first match against Raw Soccer Skills Corinthians and were soon 1-0 up with a good goal from Hugh Piper getting the team off the mark. The lead was extended with a great solo run down the right wing from Ted Barlow, beating a man, then blasting the ball into the roof of the net. Raw skills came back into the game with a good goal to narrow the margin, but any hopes of a comeback were dashed with a deft finish from William Heydorn to make the final score 3-1.

In the second match against Oxted Hawks the similar styles of play from both teams seemed to cancel each other out, but the deadlock was broken with a breakaway goal in the first half from Oxted. The Eagles fought back and passed the ball around well seeing much of the possession after the goal and eventually after hitting the post with his first effort Archie B. scored from his own rebound to make the final score 1-1.

The win and the draw were enough to take the Eagles into the penalty shoot-out to decide the tournament winners. In an extremely tense shoot-out the Eagles held their nerve with some splendid penalties and some great saves from Max W. to win 6-5 and take home the tournament trophy.

A great pre-season result for the whole team.

Eagles man of the tournament – Tommy.
