Making the connection between NRPA’s three pillars and your agency’s mission is a great way to link with national initiatives. Many communities are already addressing NRPA’s pillars through programs, facilities and events; however they are not making the connection to the national level. We will show you how to build advocacy and support in your community through a multi-faceted marketing plan and communications strategy that focuses on conservation, health & wellness and social equity. Many of these tactics are free/low cost and can be implemented by anyone. Review concrete examples of how to add a new dimension to your communication and marketing plan. Learn how any agency can tie NRPA’s three initiatives into their organization.
Learning Outcomes:
Participants will learn how to connect agency strategies with NRPA’s initiatives.

This workshop will provide concrete strategies and best practice approaches for moving "fans" and "followers" along the continuum to create true advocates and ambassadors. Various examples of grassroots engagement programs will be examined to find common strategies, tools and resources to ensure success. Goals and outcomes of each program will be discussed so that participants can consider alternatives that best fit their communities.
Learning Outcomes:
Compare various approaches to elevating public engagement
Learning outcome #2
Consider a public engagement continuum specific to their agency
Learning outcome #3
Apply the best practices, tools and resources provided for implementation

Every single person in your entire agency is not exceptional leadership material. That is actually fine. Not everyone in every instance leads. Sometime you need expert followers. This session is about putting your employees in situations where their true leadership traits can be reveled. Once you have made the determination of who will be the few leaders in your agency they must be trained and developed very differently than everyone else. This session will provide a step by step approach from identification to development of the best of your best.
Learning Outcomes:
understand various methods of determining who are your potential future leaders.
Learning outcome #2
create a professional development road map for future leaders.
Learning outcome #3
Identify the skills necessary to be a Recreation Agency leader in the future.
Speaker:Tom O'Rourke, Executive Director, Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission, Charleston, SC
