MISSION STATEMENT

The Enugu USA Medical Mission is a humanitarian year round mission to provide FREE medical care to the people of EnuguState who are underserved and less privileged. It is in response to health crisis (malaria, arthritis, diabetes, infections, ulcers, high blood pressure, wounds, health education, etc) that Enugu USA medical Mission was organized to contribute to solutions that solve health issues affecting Enugu people.

ACCOMPLISHMENT

Since the inception of EnuguUSA medical Mission in 2002 EnuguUSA has successfully carried out a yearly medical mission to EnuguState. The 2010 medical Mission was the ninth mission and more than 24 communities were visited where men, women, and children received assessment, treatment, or received medications for various illnesses and diseases. The participants in 2010 mission include physicians, nurses, pharmacists, environmental health experts, dieticians, attorneys, engineers, and educators from USA and Nigeria. All these participants licensed in United States and Nigeria worked tirelessly to see the accomplishment of the 2010 medical mission. The mission was 100% funded by materials and money raised by the Enugu USA national financial committee and the medical mission team via donations from various Enugu USA organizations, individuals, and some USA cooperation as well as Enugu State Govt. MINUTES OF THE EMERGENCY MEETING OF THE ENUGUUSA MEDICAL MISSION TEAM AND SOME OFFICIALS OF MINISTRY OF HEALTHHELD ON DEC. 12TH, 2010 AT GOLDEN TULIP.
On Sunday, 12/12/10, the Medical Mission Team arrived Golden Tulip, a Five Star hotel owned by Chief Chinedu Ochinanwata. There in the lobby were the Permanent Secretary to the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Otiji and his team of local organizing committee in the persons of Dr. N.M. Eje, Director of Medical Services- Ministry of Health, Dr. G.P.I. Oluka, Health Administrator, State Health Board Enugu and the P.R.O. Ministry Of Health.
An emergency meeting with the team was called by the EnuguUSA National President, Hon. Bernard Ugwu and the EnuguUSA officials present in the meeting were the BOD Chairman, Hon. Engr. Chibuzor Nweke, the Medical Mission Coordinator, Hon. Leo Ugwu, the Medical Mission Chief Pharmacist, Hon. Solomon Maduko [Pharm D], the Financial Secretary, Hon. Paul Aniugo and the National Secretary, Hon. Joy Chy Chukwu. At this moment, we got courtesy call from the EnuguUSA Vice President, Hon. Chinwe Ofoleta and the Assistant National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Dr. Amaka Oduh and we all took turns to exchange pleasantries with them.
However, Hon. Leo Ugwu, haven met with Dr. Otiji prior to the meeting, started by introducing him and his team to us all. Dr. Otiji informed us that a total of 15 rooms were assigned to the Medical Mission Team [M.M.T] and that check-in startsimmediately. He stated that efforts to increase the number of rooms have been futile andadvised that we contact the Hon. Special Adviser to the Government on Diaspora Matters and Special Projects, Dr. Jude Akubilo for help. He assured us of the fullest cooperation of the Government in all areas including transportation, Security, and Personnel. The National President thanked himfor his efforts so far, promised to work with what we had for that night while we wait and see how much more rooms will be needed later.
Hon. Solomon Maduko stated that most of the medications were already stored in his room and that the bags for packaging the medications for different teams have been purchased. He suggested that the M.M Coordinator, Hon. Leo Ugwu should control the medication room until the mission is over. This was approved by all.
The National President briefed all on the immediate need to partner with some clinics in various communitiestobe visited but will hold off on calling the meeting for that until the Medical Mission Medical Director, Dr. Martin Ugwudike arrives. He encouraged the Commissioner for Health through her Perm. Sec., Dr. Otiji to Endeavour to attend at least one or two missions with us for observations and critics but he [Dr. Otiji] said that it will be quite impossible due to their busy schedule. He promised to send a capable representative that will go with us.
At this point, the Perm. Sec and his team excused themselves out of the meeting for other engagements.
Hon. Paul Aniugo enquired on how the Grinding Machine Project with the women is going.
The BOD Chairman, Hon. Engr. Chibuzor Nweke stated that whatever israised for the project should be properly tabled to the National President and that he [National President] should try to be part and parcel of the project since he formed the committee and its still under the EnuguUSA Medical Mission.
The National Secretary, Hon. Chy Chukwu informed them that the Committee Chairperson plans to work with the Catholic Women Organization.
The National President, Hon. Bernard Ugwu suggested that since Hon. Chy Chukwu is on ground, she should work hand-in-hand with the Women Affairs Committee Chairperson.
The M.M. Coordinator enquired on how we intend to take care of lunch for all volunteers for the duration of the mission since the state governmentpromised totake care of ourbreakfast and dinner.
The National President, Hon. Ugwu pointed out that it will be wise for us to check the schedule and see if there is any of our team members that we will be visiting his/her community, who will be kind enough to provide us with lunch, that way,we save the cost of taking food to that community. Both Hon. Chy Chukwu and Hon. Dr. Solomon Maduko were happy to inform them that Ugbawka and Nsude are on schedule for Tuesday and Wednesday respectively and they will provide the teams with food and drinks on those days. The National President and BOD Chairman expressed their gratitude to them.
Hon. Leo Ugwu also enquired onthe status of the different pledgesto be collected in naira.
The National President, Hon. Ugwu informed all that he contacted the Ofuobi Women's President, Hon. Dr. Chii Akporji regarding their pledge but she said that she is working on it and will be arriving Abuja that Sunday. The National President also stated that he will be meeting withSenator Ayogu Ezethe next day to collect his own money that he pledged. As for the pledge made by Hon. Blessing Chukwu's brother, the National President stated that he had no information on that but intends to give her [Hon. Chukwu]a follow up call in regards to that.
The meeting was adjourned and a closing prayer was said by Hon. Chy Chukwu.
As we were dispersing, the Special Adviser to the Government on Diaspora Matters and Special Project, Hon. Dr. Jude Akubilo, Hon. Frank Akubuilo,Chief John Egbo, the Commissioner for Transport and Enugu Capital Developement, Hon. Charlly Parker, who is working with Hon. Commissioner Egbo, Hon. Ozo Paul Sayama, theGeneral Secretary- Rangers International Football Club, Enugu Hon. Levi Onyia and some friends now worked into thehotel lobbyto welcome all the Medical Mission Team. On behalf of Hon. Engr. Goddy Madueke and family, Hon. Dr. Jude Akubilo invited us all to his [Hon. Engr. Madueke's] house for dinner. Hon. Dr. Akubuilo also used that opportunity to inform us that he got calls from the National President and the Coordinator regarding the 15 rooms assigned to the team. He assured us that more rooms will be available as more of our members arrive. The tension was now calmed and we all headed to Hon. Commissioner Madueke's house. In
attendance for the dinner were the Chief host and family, Hon. Dr. Jude Akubilo, Hon. Chief John Egbo, Hon. Ozo Paul Sayama, Hon. Johnbul Nwagu, Hon. Charlly Parker, Hon. Bernard Ugwu, Hon. Chibuzor Nweke, Hon. Solomon Maduko, Hon. Ed. Nebo, Hon. CY Aninta, Hon. Paul Aniugo, Hon. Levi Onyia, Hon. Ken Nwafor and the Hon. P.R.O. Ministry Of Health.
