HIGHLANDER

DISPATCH

.On 18th of January, at 5 p.m. the Highland Brigade Lee-Jackson Banquet will start. Try and come a few minutes early. We will need uniformed soldiers for the opening ceremony of "posting the colors". If you can be in the ceremony & already know you'll be there, give me a call so I can take a count. This event is a "covered dish" supper. James Ogden of the Chickamauga Battlefield will be the guest speaker. Just by showing up you are showing that you are honoring the memory of your ancestor and all Confederate veterans. To make the Highland Brigade a good organization it takes everyones attendance to support the Brigade. It'll be held in Doyle again this year, as last year. If you didn't make it last year & need to know the directions to the Doyle Community Center just email me and I'll send you the directions. Last year Ross Moore and Kay Muse were there. Hopefully they'll get to come this year, but I'd say they will be entertaining at another Banquet that day. In April, the Tn Division re union will be at Union City TN. If you want me to continue to be the Brigade Commander come & represent your camp in the vote for Highland Brigade's Commander. Myself , I plan to only attend the business meeting to give an oral Brigade report to the Division. I do want to go to Dixie Gun works. I've bought thousands of dollars worth of stuff from them since 1983 when I ordered my Tennessee Squirrel rifle (Bean style TN rifle), that I still have and able to shoot straight when I don't miss up. It's early , but you need to get it on your calenders, May 16-18, Byrdstown, at Cordell Hull birthplace there will be a re-enactment of "the Affair at Travisville", Myers-Zollicoffer's Bill Heard is the re-enactor point man. Need 25-30 "recruits" to join the Confederate Army. We have about 12-15 who I know is gon'a be there (my reenacting unit, Company E, 43rd Tn Infantry Company will be there also). If you have an early war/mostly civilian impression we need you to come and be an infantry man. Need men with pre-1861 shotguns/rifles/pistols, flintlock or percussion. If interested contact myself or Bill Heard. He will make the final decision if you can be used, there is a web site, www.affairattravisville.com . We need more men so register as soon as possible after talking to Bill or myself. If you've never done a re enactment this is the only one in our area and not to be missed, either as a spectator or re enactor. There will be a school day starting that Friday morning (16 May)so if you can be there for the "children" come on. There will be 3 meals furnished, 4 if you are there for the school days program. Deo Vindice, Mike Williams, Commander, (931) 310-9176
