GRADUATE ASSISTANT RESIDENT DIRECTOR POSITION DESCRIPTION
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Graduate Resident Director is a live-in paraprofessional of the Office of Housing and Residential Services who reports directly to the Assistant Director of Residential Services. The RD’s primary role is in the administration and supervision of one of the residence areas housing between 150-200 undergraduate students. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: the daily functioning and management of the residence area that he/she has been assigned, community development, staff supervision, educational discipline, programming, crisis intervention, administrative organization, and facilities/operational management. The RD will assist with staff selection and training, the conduct system, and student leadership and development.
GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supervises 3-4 Resident Assistants assigned to the residence area. Provides regular individual/group supervision on a weekly basis and completes written evaluations each semester.
2. Participates in the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of Resident Assistants. Attends and participates in all in-service training for staff and assists in creating and implementing these trainings.
3. Responsible for establishing and maintaining community relations with students living in the residence halls through individual contacts and group interactions.
4. Provides leadership and support for staff and student programming efforts within their assigned residence area.
5. Acts as a resource person and referral agent and advises students regarding personal, educational, behavioral, and residence hall concerns. RD counsels students within the realms of training and refers students to appropriate campus services as needed.
6. Manages the residence hall in coordination with appropriate offices and with the Associate Director to ensure proper day-to-day functioning of the building.
7. Administers room change forms within the residence hall and monitors room assignments. Assists with the dissemination of housing information and the Room Selection Process.
8. Responsible for opening the residence hall in the fall and after breaks, and for hall closings prior to breaks and the end of the academic year. Responsible for the distribution and collection of keys, management of key box and key inventory, and monitoring of room inventories. Uses access software to assist in one-card management, as requested.
9. Forwards and follows-up with Maintenance Request Orders, and is responsible for being familiar with issues and concerns in their residence area.
10. Maintains accurate records to submit various reports as specified by the Office of Housing and Residential Services.
11. Coordinates the implementation of the damage process for individuals and/or common area community assessment charges.
12. Utilizes departmental assessment data to set action plans for their residence area, and assists in departmental planning.
13. Participates in rotating on-campus duty responsibilities in supervising the campus on weekends, weeknights, and vacation periods, and during emergencies, as requested.
14. Expected to be attentive to the needs and concerns of the residents in such areas as safety, security, and emergency situations. Will work cooperatively with University Police to ensure safety within the residence halls and will implement Health & Safety inspections with the assistance of the RA staff.
15. Responsible for explaining and enforcing departmental and campus policies.
16. Addresses behavioral concerns, works with staff on student concerns, forwards Incident Reports to the appropriate offices, and acts as a hearing officer in judicial cases.
17. Attends and participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings and individual supervision with the Director of Housing and Residential Services.
18. Participates in marketing efforts put forth by the department, which may include participation in Admission Office Open Houses or committee work.
19. Works to promote student leadership opportunities.
20. Other duties as assigned. Occasionally, a RD will be asked to perform services outside of direct residence hall responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS: The RD must possess a Bachelor’s degree and be enrolled as a graduate student, must not be enrolled in more than 6 credit hours each semester without prior approval, and must be available to begin the assistantship on July 31, 2017.

The graduate student selected for this position will be provided with a stipend
not to exceed $8800.00, a furnished on-campus apartment, a meal plan when the dining hall is open, and a waiver for 15 class credits an academic year (tuition and fees).
