You will write an extended essay that addresses a theme/topic found in Romeo and Juliet.

Requirements:

  • AT LEAST 2 quotes (10 points)
  • AT LEAST 3 specific examples from the text (15 points)

  • Title: Centered on the first page/ catchy and interesting

Prompt Choices:

  1. At the end of the play, Prince Escalus declares that “some will be pardoned and some punished.” Who, in your opinion, should be let off the hook, and who should face some sort of consequence for his or her actions?
  2. Discuss the relationships between parents and children in Romeo and Juliet. How do Romeo and Juliet interact with their parents? Are they rebellious, in the modern sense? How do their parents feel about them? How does this seem to impact events of the story?
  3. Name the two other people in the play who know about the love between Romeo and Juliet and explain how they help the lovers achieve their goals.
  4. In your opinion, was Lord Capulet a good father? Support your statement.
  5. Discuss the character of Romeo and his infatuation with Rosaline. Does this weaken the credibility of the love he feels for Juliet?
