- Participant Introductions/updates
- Eecole: OHSU. Got funding through 2018. Expanding grocery stores on the list. Doing a clinicisnpresentateion. $3 voucher costs $4 to the clinic, extra dollar goes to admin fees, clinics pay for vouchers on their own. Will present idea in January.
- Jane/Mariel: Looking for funds through Pacific Source flex funds. Starting a pilot to serve 33 people. Interested in evaluating program as well.
- Kaely and Eecole can be a resource regarding evaluations.
- Kris: Customer loyalty program as more sustainable funding model. Still evaluating.
- Lauren – partnerships for health. Served 166 families through 5 clinics. Did a large pre and post survey. Next year raising 100 more shares. Talking with insurance companies about including veggie rx in regular vouchers. Talking with family care, care Oregon, and Kaiser.
- Lexi: 63 household served, expanding program to 80 patients. Extending CSA from 10 to 14 weeks. Most funding secured. Hiring a part time staff person to run the program over the summer.
- Lynn: Working with Angie Treadwill in Umatilla county. Thinking of doing a pilot proposal based on Portland diabetes model – providing produce as incentive. Also raising people’s awareness about the funding issues in the future due to legislative decisions.
- Nancy, Jackson Care Connect. Welcome.
- Sarah Sullivan, Gorge Grown: $115,000 spent on Veg Rx to date. Partnering with community care organizations, local community advisory boards. Starting to get more requests from smaller clinics who are paying for their own vouchers. Raised admin fee to 25%, so far that’s fully supported.
- Leslie, Food works. Welcome.
- Regan, RVFSN. Growing in Grants Pass and including local clinics.
- Juliette, Blue Zones Project Umpqua. Looking to build a Veggie Rx program, working with OSU extension.
- Equity question:
- From DEI team: We recognize that systemic injustices exist- such as racism, classism, and sexism-and that these create and perpetuate conditions that sustain poverty and hunger. As we seek to create a more equitable food system, OCFSN members will help lead the way.The equity subcommittee of the OCFSN is gathering and drafting equity tools including an equity statement. We would like to solicit input from each of the working groups to help create a statement that is authentic, motivating and aspirational for the network. With this in mind, please work with the members of your working group by answering the following question in one paragraph or less:
- How can and is the work of Veggie Rx advancing equity in our food system, especially for historically underserved or oppressed communities?
- Postponed for next call
- Veggie Rx Summit discussion (Lauren/Kaely)
- Lauren: Survey Re-cap; everyone is excited to participate. Kaiser will only fund if it’s open, so legislators, providers, participants, etc. will also be involved. It will be an entire day and most folks want to have it align with the OCFSN gathering. What do people want to get out of a day long meeting?
