OCEANIA JUNIOR NATIONS CUP27 February – 3 March 2013,

GOLD COAST, AUSTRALIA

Welcome to the Oceania Junior Nations Cup. This tournament is a Qualifying tournament and there are 2 places in both the Men and Women’s competition to be won. The FIH Women’s Junior Nations Cup is in Monchengladbach Germany in late July 2013, while the FIH Men’s Junior Nations Cup, will be in India in December 2013.

It is my great pleasure, on behalf of the Oceania Hockey Federation, to welcome all the participating teams and their management, appointed officials and supporters. The participating teams for the Men’s Junior Nations Cup are Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Vanuatu in the Men while the Women’s competition is run as a 3 match series between Australia and New Zealand. This is the first time that member countries, other than Australia and New Zealand, have been in involved in this level of qualifier, so it is a special welcome to Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu.

I would like to personally acknowledge and thank Gold Coast Hockey Association for hosting this event. The organising committee has worked well beside Oceania Hockey Federation for many months and I appreciate the effort that has been made to make this event a memorable one.

The work of many volunteer administrators, coaches, players and technical officials to get themselves ready for this event is huge. We are again expanding our base of people involved and being developed through this tournament. Hockey throughout the world simply would not survive without this support. Just Hockey Australia is continuing their support of our officials by sponsoring their shirts and Oceania Hockey Federation is appreciative of that.

The Federation of International Hockey (FIH) tagline is Fairplay, Friendship Forever. To the players, your best is all we ask for, enjoy the games and the camaraderie and above all play hockey that you are proud of as an individual and as a team.

Kind regards and best wishes

Pam Elgar

President Oceania Hockey Federation

February 2013

Welcome Everyone,

It gives me much please as President of Gold Coast Hockey Association, to welcome athletes, Officials, families and spectators to our Oceania Junior World Cup Qualifier, including Oceania Hockey Federation members, Hockey Australia and Hockey Queensland. We are excited to be the host for this very important and exciting event and will endeavour to provide you all with an amazing experience in a sport that we all love.

On a positive note, the Gold Coast will host the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the Gold Coast Hockey Association will be home for the Hockey competition. The Gold Coast Hockey Centre at Keith Hunt Park, Labrador will be upgraded to host this event and the redevelopment of the venue will provide for three all-weather synthetic pitches and will include seating for 5,000 spectators. The Federal and State government, Gold Coast City Council and Hockey Queensland are supportive in this redevelopment and it will establish the Centre as Queensland’s premier Hockey venue, providing a valuable, world-class competition and training venue for current and future athletes and the Gold Coast community.

I would like to thank the many volunteers who have given of their time to ensure this event will be a positive and successful tournament for athletes, officials, families and spectators.

I am very proud of our Gold Coast Hockey Academy and under Sue Dalton’s leadership has provided us with top class, qualified and experienced human resources in Olympic Gold Medallist and High Performance Coach Brent Livermore, High Performance Manager Carl Dalton and International Umpire Julie Ashton-Lucy. They possess a wealth of knowledge, experience and dedication and bring this to our event and together with the remaining members of the working committee Gail Lomas, Leyvon Weyer and our administrator Angela Brett, I sincerely thank them for their hard work and dedication to the Junior World Cup Qualifier.

We look forward to your visit and making this sporting experience a very memorable one!

Kind Regards,

Christine Putland
