Overview:

In Photography 1 you will become familiar with the controls and functions of a digital camera. You will learn how to take visually engaging pictures by concentrating on compositional elements such as focal point and the rule of thirds. You will upload your photographs on Photoshop where you will be able to manipulate the appearance by working with various tools and skills. You will be given assignments that allow you to develop your photographic creativity, and understanding, while learning about famous photographers and their concepts. Gone are the days of boring snapshots, the skills you learn in Photo 1will prepare you for Photography 2 and transfer to other aspects in life.

Goals:

o  Operate and become comfortable with the controls of a digital camera.

o  Discover techniques to take extraordinary photographs.

o  Learn about composition, focal point, and visual elements of a successful photograph.

o  Upload photos onto the computer.

o  Learn the tools, skills, and controls of Photoshop.

o  Scan images in to your compositions.

Supplies:

o  Binder or folder

o  Paper for notes or binder

o  Writing implements

o  SD Camera Card

Expectations:

o  All school rules apply.

o  You must be in your seat and prepared by the time the bell rings.

o  You must respect all supplies, your classmates and your teacher! There will be additional camera care and procedures given to you at a later date.

o  If you are absent, it is your responsibility to make up any missed work. If you miss a day when a project is due, you must hand it in the day you return.

Assessment:

Students are given set criteria to follow for each project and will be graded based on a detailed rubric to ensure that all receive a fair grade. Most projects will be graded out of 100 points; each criterion will have a specific point value, which will count towards the total of the entire project. Students will also be graded on preliminary sketches, critical writing, homework, and class participation.
