2017NWS FRIDAY NIGHT SKI BUS DETAILS

We take ski trips on Friday nights during ski season. The dates and the depart/return times are posted on theOutdoor Program calendar.

During ski bus season, here’s how the details work out. At the beginning of the season, information is posted on the school’s website (Outdoor Program tab.) Specifics include the dates of our trips, trip protocols, permission slips/waivers and discounted season pass information.

Mondays: the trip is announced at Middle School Morning Meeting though it is also on the Outdoor Program calendar. Permission slips are available online and from: the Main Office, Erica Bergamini, Herb Bergamini, Justin Peters, and Jeremy Dewitt. The trip will likely have been announced to the whole student body at the previous Wednesday’s Community Meeting.

The end of the day Tuesdayis the deadline for submitting permission slips and the $20 trip fee to the Main Office or Jeremy DeWitt.Dorm students may turn in forms and money directly to Justin by the end of the evening.

Students must bring their own money for tickets and/or ski rental. Financial aid is available for NWS students interested in this program and is coordinated by Herb Bergamini (contact info: 206-816-6105, ).

Friday mornings: students arrive with their gear and neatly stow it along the west wall of the Commons or in a cloakroom where it won’t be in the way. Trip participants should plan for their evening meal by bringing a sack meal or eating ski area fare. Students are wise to bring dry clothes to change into should the evening be rainy/wet.

Friday afternoon: around 3:45 PM assemble in the Commons or a room off the Commons for a group meeting and then load the bus(s). Only Northwest School students and faculty are permitted on the ski bus.

While at the ski area: (The Summit at Snoqualmie, we usually park at the West Summit) students are expected to use the buddy system and always be in groups of three or larger while on the slopes. In the event of an accident/injury, this buddy system also allows one person to stay with the injured person and the other secures the aid of Ski Patrol. Having at least one cell phone in each group facilitates trip faculty becoming aware of thesituation and working with Ski Patrol.

Students are expected to stay within the ski area boundaries at all times.

Wearing a helmet while on the slopes is expected/required.

Friday nightat 9:45 PM: we start loading the bus(s) and depart from the ski area at 10:00.By 11:10 PM we arrive back at NWS, park, unload and clean the bus(s). Students and their gear are picked up near the corner of Crawford and Union.
