*BELOW ARE SUGGESTED GUIDELINES FOR ROLE ACTIVITIES PER TEAM MEMBER. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE TEAM TO ENSURE THAT ALL INTERVENTIONS ARE IN PLACE AND THAT THE CODE RUNS SMOOTHLY.

BASIC RESCUER 1

/ BASIC RESCUER 2 – AIRWAY ASSISTANCE

Initial:

1.  Notes time.
2.  Calls for help.
3.  Begins one rescuer CPR correctly according to American Heart Association. / 1.  Calls for code team if not already done.
2.  Places cardiac arrest board under patient.
3.  Checks for spontaneous return of pulse; effectiveness of compressions
4.  Inserts oropharyngeal or nasopharyngeal airway.
Intermediate:
4.  Maintains compressions at correct rate when second rescuer arrives.
5.  Calls for switch from compression as needed during CPR protocol.
6.  When physician arrives, gives initial details of patient discovery, diagnosis, and history if known.
7.  Changes functions as required during code. / 5.  Ventilates patient using Ambu bag.
6.  Begins two rescuer CPR giving ventilations correct rate.
7.  Switches to compressions as needed during CPR protocol.
Intermediate:
8.  Assists with endotracheal intubation.
a.  Provides equipment at appropriate time (ET tube, Laryngoscope, 10 cc syringe, stethoscope, 1” tape).

HOUSE SUPERVISOR

/ b.  Keeps airway clear by suctioning as required.
c.  Confirms placement of ET tube if required, by listening for breath sounds, checking for air sounds over epigastric area.
9.  Remove oxygen source from patient.
10.  Assists in inserting NG tube if required for stomach decompression.

EQUIPMENT NURSE: / MEDICATION NURSE:
Initial: / Initial:
1.  Brings adjunctive emergency crash cart equipment such as
EKG or ventilator to bedside.
2.  Attaches patient to cardiac monitor.
3.  Sets up ET tube, Laryngoscope, 10 cc syringe, stethoscope, 1” tape.
4.  Plugs in defibrillator and turns it on.
5.  Prepares drugs according to standing orders or physician’s
orders. Labels infusions that are prepared. Recognizes normal
dosages and knows method of infusion.
6.  Prepares heparinized syringes of arterial blood gases / 1.  Sets up oxygen, suction, manual resuscitation bag with concentrator, oropharyngeal airway.
2.  Establishes IV line with #18 IV angiocath and NS, or according to hospital protocol.
3.  Administers drugs according to standing orders or physician’s orders. Recognizes normal dosages, knows methods of infusion.
4.  Establishes additional IV lines as necessary.
5.  Changes functions as required during a code.

8.  Assists with defibrillator through preparation of paddles
