IVCOURSE DESCRIPTION:

An organized study seminar for practical nursing students preparing to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN). The course is designed to aid students in recalling nursing principles and nursing care for commonly encountered health problems throughout the life span. Methods to improve test-taking skills and relieve test anxiety are included.

VICOURSE OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:

  1. Develop an individualized study plan in preparation for the NCLEX-PN.
  2. Answer NCLEX-type questions with confidence.
  3. Identify strengths and weaknesses to determine further study needs.
  4. Relate how to take a timed exam.
  5. Determine appropriate planning and scheduling review and study time.
  6. Demonstrate use of test-taking skills when taking practice exams.

XIEVALUATION:

Knowledge is evaluated through written practice exams and class discussion. To successfully complete this course the student must:

  • demonstrate attendance (no more than one absence)(2 partially missed classes = 1 absence)
  • participate in discussions and activities;
  • complete all in-class practice questions;
  • completeassignments as noted above.
