Number & Title of Course: ARPL 539 Prefabricated and Modular Architecture, 3 credits.
Course Description: The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the history, principles and methods of off-site construction using prefabricated and modular components.
Course Goals & Objectives:
Students will be able to:
· Explain the types of off-site construction and associated methods
· Describe the benefits and limits of prefabrication and modular construction and its common and applicable uses.
· Understand the bases for using intermodel steel building units (ISBUs) a.k.a. shipping containers, as a form of prefabricated construction
· Make informed decisions for incorporating off-site construction typology into an architectural design
