NT641: Greek Exegesis
Course Description:
This course is focused on the exegesis of the Greek text. Translation and syntactical work will be the backbone of the course, with attention provided to text-critical, lexical and grammatical review.
Course Outcomes:
1. The student will improve in ability to translate and analyze the text exegetically through weekly assigned Greek texts.
2. The student will improve in analysis of Greek syntax in reference to major syntactical categories.
3. The student will gain experience in an integrated exegesis of the text through text-critical, lexical, grammatical, and syntactical and structural analysis, as well as attention to historical-contextual issues.
4. The student will be able to integrate the theology/praxis of 1 Peter with other areas of learning and reflection, such as NT theology and living faithfully in culture.

Assignments:
1. Worksheets/Conference Calls (20%):Students will translate assigned texts and work through syntax and exegesis questions from1 Peter. This work will be reviewed during on-campus intensive and during conference call(s)/Abode Connect in distance weeks.
2. Passage Briefs (60%; 30% each): Two passage briefs will be completed by the student and submitted on due dates indicated in Assignments section. The goal of this assignment is for the student to do significant exegetical work on two passages from1 Peter (one being 1:13-25; the other being chosen by the student) and use this work to prepare to teach/preach on the passage. Instructions for this assignmentare located in Course Documents.
3. Vocabulary Quiz (10%): The student will work to add four new lists of vocabulary (from Metzger) to their knowledge: words occurring25-31 times in the NT. A quiz will be taken during week 4.
4. Reading (10%): The student will provide a reading report at the end of the quarter, indicating the percentage of reading (Green, W&W, Brown) completed during the quarter.
