NSPE/PEPP REPORT

TO

NSPE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

January 2007

MINNEAPOLIS, MN

This report provides a summation of activities and directions for the Private Practice Division of NSPE from the time period between September 1, 2006 and December 30, 2006.

PEPP 50th Anniversary

Plans are underway for celebrating the PEPP 50th Anniversary, culminating in an event in July in Denver during the Annual meeting.

EJCDC

Marketing 05-06 Sales exceeded their revenue goal of $325k by over $25,000 for the second most successful sales ever. Documents sales should see positive returns in 2006-2007 with long awaited November release of the sub consultant documents and the expected winter release of the construction family documents. PEPP is seeing increased marketing competition from ASCE and ACEC .PEPP continues to develop new mailing lists, and marketing programs to improve and enhance the sale of EJCDC documents, which of course is one of the primary sources of NSPE non dues revenue.

Web seminar PEPP, with the help of the NSPE Education Department, is producing a web seminar on December 12th in conjunction with the United States Department of Agriculture/Rural Utilities Service (USDA/RUS) on the Funding Agency Edition of the EJCDC contract documents. USDA/RUS has made the EJCDC contracts the only preapproved contracts they accept for water and wastewater funding. There are 37 participants registered and this event will be recorded for on demand viewing. On January 31st PEPP is aiding the USDA/RUS on their first ever internal, on-line training program. This web seminar is for the USDA/RUS Office of State Engineers and will be on the EJCDC Funding Agency Edition contract documents.

Delegation EJCDC is facing two big decisions in the upcoming quarter. First is whether to change the delivery system of the documents from the current Word format to an electronic system based on AGC’s Docubuilder system. This system is similar to the way AIA sells documents and offers more control and security of the document language.

The other decision is what part EJCDC will play in the newly forming Construction Industry Contracts Council (CICC). EJCDC is determining whether they should revise their Design-Build set of 12 documents (which are not a particularly huge seller for NSPE) or collaborate with the CICC, including DBIA, AGC, CURT (Construction Users Roundtable) COAA (Construction Owners Association of America), American Subcontractors Association, and others.

The next EJCDC meeting is January 25-27 in New Orleans.

HR Roundtable

The national HR Round Table will be held March 21-23, 2007 in Alexandria VA. The PEPP/HR roundtable group expanded the offerings to twice a year, keeping the current one in the Spring in Alexandria, and partnering with a state society to host one in the Fall. The Illinois state society is partnered with PEPP on a Fall 2006 HR Roundtable in November. Positive feedback has been received on the event. The Texas state society has asked to partner with PEPP on a Fall 2007 offering.

CFO Roundtable

The annual national CFO Roundtable will be offered May 3-5, 2007 in Arlington Virginia. Marketing will begin shortly for this program.

Council of Principals

The Council of Principals presented its Toxic Mold 101presentation as a web seminar in September. This presentation is approved for CEUs by the New York State Society and was a very successful offering.

PEPP is working on expanding the Council of Principals outreach to States and Chapters by helping to develop and deliver COP programs on the local level. PEPP will be holding a Council of Principals session in Tampa on February 23, 2007. Current topics include Communication and Generational issues in firms.

PEPP Young Engineers Advisory Council

The PEPP Young Engineers Advisory Council (YEAC)’s is finalizing their presentation on motivation factors of young Engineers. Over 600 young NSPE members and 80 non member responded to a survey on their motivating factors at work. This will be included in a “canned” presentation that can be given at state or chapter meetings

In February the group will be conducting interviews with P.E.s who are elected officials, to augment the surveys that gauge how being a professional engineer has impacted their time in office. This information will be finalized in to a presentation that can be given at state or chapter meetings.

Professional Liability Committee

In October, NSPE/PEPP, along with the Risk Management Committees of the American Institute of Architects, and the American Council of Engineering Companies, will compile their nationwide survey of professional liability insurance companies to highlight rates, offerings, and other facts about the industry. The results and a directory will be published in the Professional Liability and Risk Management section of the NSPE Web site. After soliciting interest from NSPE members, the group has received numerous responses from members looking to participate in this committee in the future.
