6. / Description of content: The Philippines is imposing temporary ban on the importation of FMD-susceptible animals originating from China.

8. / Nature of the urgent problem(s) and reason for urgent action: An outbreak of FMD with serotypes A and Asia 1 were reported in cattle farms in the province of Hubei and Xinjiang by Dr. Yu Kangzhen to the Office International des Epizooties (OIE) last 22January 2009. The Philippines is instituting this emergency measure to prevent the entry of foot and mouth disease.
