1) Abby bought a package of cookies weighing 1.5 pounds and another package of cookies that weighed 2 pounds 2 ounces. What was the combined weight of the two packages of cookies she bought?

(hint: find how many ounces 0.5 pounds is or what decimal of a pound 2 ounces is)

1.5 pounds is equivalent to 1 pound 8 ounces (there are 16 ounces in 1 pound so half of 1 pound is half the number of ounces = 8 ounces)

2 pounds 2 ounces is equivalent to 2.125 pounds (2 ounces out of 16 ounces to make 1 pound is 216= 18 which is 0.125)

(hint: you must convert the ounces to pounds) *this is like the salad question we worked with on the Weight in the World packet-think of it like a process table and even draw one out if needed.

c = w ÷ 16 · 4 + 1.25
(total cost will be given weight in ounces divided by 16 to find weight in pounds, then multiply weight in pounds by $4 to get the total cost of fudge, then add $1.25 for the cost of the box)

You can eliminate option C using this reasoning.

*First, decide which volume formula to use: v = lwh
*Next, substitute in for what you do know (leave variable for unknown): 288 = 12 · w · 6
*Then simplify the side of the equation with the variable: 288 = 72 · w
*Now divide each side of the equation by 72 to solve for w: 28872= 72 ·w72
*Solve to find w: 288 ÷ 72 = w
*Label answer (since this is a linear measurement, it is just inches): 4 in = w

3) Bernice has a yellow carton with a volume of 192 cubic cm. The area of the base is 16 cm². How tall is Bernice’s box?

*First, decide which volume formula to use: v = Bh
*Next, substitute in for what you do know (leave variable for unknown): 192 = 16 · h
*Now divide each side of the equation by 16 to solve for h: 19216= 16 ·h16
*Solve to find h: 192 ÷ 16 = h

1) The temperature was 45⁰F at 9:37 am and 65⁰F at 4:40 pm. The temperature decreased by 3⁰F per hour until sunset at 6:40 pm. How much warmer was the temperature at 6:40 pm than it was at 9:37 am? (hint: use a number line to help with the integers) * The question asks for the difference in temp. between 6:40 pm and 9:37 am. You have to calculate the temperature at 6:40 pm. Since 6:40 pm is 2 hours past 4:40 pm and the temperature decreases by 3 ̊F each hour then multiply 3 · 2 to get 6 ̊F decrease from 4:40 pm. Since the temperature at 4:40 pm is 65 ̊F then subtract 6 ̊F to get a temperature of 59 ̊F at 6:40 pm. Then you can find the difference (subtract) 59 ̊F - 45 ̊F = 14 ̊F warmer. Reread the question with your answer to be certain you answered the question.

If he has recorded 38 min 38 seconds of music, how much music recording time remains on his CD? *Remember that there are 60 sec in 1 min and 60 min in 1 hour. You CANNOT simply line up and subtract using place value because that is based on 10s. You can borrow and regroup minutes and seconds:
