Spanish 1—KEEP THESE NOTES!

1.  English Pronouns- can be used as the subject of the sentence

Singular Plural

*1st box will always follow first box for each definition. For example, I in English is the first box and “yo” means “I” in English. It is also the first box. “Él” means “he”- it is always 3rd person (3rd box), etc.

2.  Spanish subject pronouns- just like in English, they can be the subject of the sentence (blue in your book):

Referring to more than 1 person (ud. must be included to use the uds. form).

·  Rules: Spanish subjects and pronouns can be omitted (not used) in Spanish sentences. Since you will be using Spanish sentences in this class, I prefer you to use the subject pronouns, especially when said in the directions. *Get into the habit of writing the subjects/pronouns in sentences!

·  Don’t forget the accents!

·  Don’t mix boxes

·  Ud. and Uds. are technically 2nd person, however, they are conjugated like 3rd person. Once we get into conjugating verbs, you will see this put to use.

5.  The verb- TO BE- English definitions and forms

The first blank is for the subject pronoun (blue in book, box #2 previously). The second blank is for the verb conjugation of SER (blue in your book).

*YOU CANNOT PUT “SER” INTO YOUR SPANISH SENTENCES. IT MUST BE CONJUGATED LIKE BOX #6.
