  1. Attendance

The following persons were present:

Board Members present: Amy Christiansen, Mike Carr, Rhonda Rein, Mark Flugstad, Tod Deming, Beth Johnson, Jim Hanson, Kevin Caspers, Lisa Greely, Bob Christiansen and Kim Evavold.

  1. Approval of Minutes from Last Meeting

Tod Deming moved to approve the June minutes. It was seconded by Amy Christiansen.

Discussion regarding fall ball teams and coaches. Registration is closed, we have 1 10U team, 2 12U teams, 2 14U teams and we are still working to find more players for a 16U or 16U/18U combo team. We still need coaches at the 12U level.

Mike gave a fencing update with estimates about $12,000 to $15,000 for netting. We’re hoping for a 2011 tournament to help encourage the city to participate. Mike will follow up with Jason regarding a proposal to move up Dred field improvements.

Discussion regarding FallState. Agreement to hold 2 tiers of 12U. Will need help from the High School Boosters to run.

Discussion regarding Bloomington hosting the 2011 10U NAFA Nationals and not hosting State. Will need a written confirmation for the 10U nationals. Follow up with Matt at the Bloomington Visitor’s Bureau for ideas/options/thoughts.

Jim gave a recap of elite tryouts; also reminder about free clinic at Kelly on 8/24 from 5:30 to 8:30.

Discussion regarding Dome Ball. Two teams 12 and 14 which will be playing up. Team submissions need to be sent in September. Location options are Holy Angels Dome in Richfield and Rosemount Dome.

Proposal about Winter Clinic dates. Will be held at JAC every Sunday from January 9 through April 5, 2011 except February 6 (Superbowl). Moved by Amy, Seconded by Beth. Discussion regarding pitching clinics dates and locations.

After receiving parent/player evaluations Amy and Mike talked about the frustration that some families have with coaching philosophies. We had an open discussion regarding expectations per level. What criteria is expected of the player/coach/parent. Player rotation was discussed too. It would be nice to create a detailed set of expectations for players and coaches at each level, however it is understood that there are so many variables that coaches need to deal with each year, this might be difficult to do. We also discussed an optional mid-season evaluation. That would give the coaches some feed-back midway through the season.

Just a reminder to all BFA Board members, we do not allow players to play up a level, with the exception of 8Us playing up to 10U. There may be times when we need players moved to a different level due to the numbers we have, but that is a board decision.

Rhonda gave the financial update.

Discussion about Jim’s elite team shirts; appropriate undergarments for the girls and adding the grey BFA sweatshirts to our online shopping.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:23.
