A / JOB TITLE:
PROGRAMMESOFFICER
B / REPORTING TO:
Director of Programmes
C / LOCATION:
Glasgow with some travel overseas and within the UK
D / PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
  • To develop and support a portfolio of Mary’s Meals country programmes implemented by partners and field staff. (Mary’s Meals currently has field offices in Malawi and Liberia).
  • To work closely with partners and field staff for the achievement of the charity’s objectives in regard to the delivery of overseas projects in line with desired outcomes.
  • To build partner relationships and communications processes and help build partner capacity where appropriate in line with current and future needs.
  • To provide comprehensive project information as required.
  • To develop and oversee implementation of policy on a variety of topics, as required.

E / Main Duties Include:
  • Partner contact andrelationship management
  • Delivery of good quality partner reporting
  • Assessment and development of capacity of partners
  • Development of tools and support to partners to build organisational capacity
  • Development, review and assessment of project delivery models, policies and procedures
  • Refinementand monitoring of partners’ project budgets, and, where appropriate, budgets of field offices
  • Field trips to overseas programmes for monitoring and review
  • Development and evaluation of project applications and enquiries
  • Country profiling and information gathering
  • Applications and reports to grant-giving foundations and trusts
  • Any other duties commensurate with the role.

F / QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Essential:
Degree in a relevant subject.
At least three years of work experience in a charity or donor organisation.
Desirable:
Either a postgraduate degree in a relevant subject or at least two years of development work in a developing country.
G / SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
International development:
  • Understanding of the principles of international development
  • Familiarity with using common planning tools in international development, including logframes
  • Understanding of the place of school feeding in relief and development
Personal skills:
  • Strong communicator, written and verbal, with well developed inter-personal skills
  • Highly numerate, with experience of developing and reviewing project budgets
  • Very good computer literacy (Microsoft Office / Outlook)
  • Able to organise own work and prioritise tasks
  • Flexible and comfortable managing a number of tasks
  • Able to interact with senior managers and partners comfortably and effectively
  • Strong team player
  • Ability to complete tasks
  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people in different countries and settings.

H / SALARY INDICATOR:
Negotiable dependent on relevant experience
