14. General Summary of Function/Purpose of Position
Infection Control Nurse for a 220+ bed in-patient JCAHO accredited hospital and entire facility including 2500 plus defendants in the Department of Community Health. Responsible to set up and maintain the Infection Control program at the Forensic Center. Must develop, assess, and implement all infection control policies and procedures and programs dealing with staff and patients having to do with infection control and other related areas. Responsible to prepare audits and reports, active participate in Nursing Department Performance Improvement Program and hospital-wide PI. Assess/review and implement the infection control training program for staff and patients at the Forensic Center and to keep practices current. Knowledge of OSHA, MIOSHA, CDC, DCH I.C. regulations. Knowledge of computer for establishing/maintaining electronic databases and reporting systems for I.C. Completes special assignments inclusive of unit assignments if indicated. Provides first aid and CPR to staff, visitors and patients for medical emergencies. Supervises Clinic Nurse, Dietitian’s and Barber.

Duty 1
General Summary of Duty / 50 % of Time
Center-wide Infection Control Nurse
Individual tasks related to the duty.
1.  Completes infection investigations including interviewing patients and staff.
2.  Collects data from patients, records, evaluates & reports the epidemiological analysis relative to patient care.
3.  Monitors current infections for the infection control surveillance activities.
4.  Develops and implements a centralized reporting system to indicated committees and administration.
5.  Maintains records of the Infection Control Program, evaluates data per federal and state standards including OSHA, MIOSHA, JCAHO, DCH, CDC, CFP rules and regulations. Includes patient and employee PPD/Hepatitis B records.
6.  Aware of confidentiality, HIPAA, in regards to staff and patient medical information.
7.  Conducts in-service training in Infection Control with staff and patients. Utilizing increasing electronic resources; computer databases/programs/reporting.
8.  Facility-wide liaison between Infection Control Committee, Infection Control chair and reporting pertinent information to other committees and departments.
9.  Develops, implements and assesses infection control policies and procedures.
10.  Develops and presents infection control educational programs for staff and patients.
11.  Reviews, evaluates and approves techniques employed in treatment of patients with infections and communicable diseases.
12.  Monitors infection control practices in contractual services.
13.  Active participant, prepares reports for Nursing Department Performance improvement, hospital-wide PI activities.
Duty 2
General Summary of Duty / 30 % of Time
Center-wide Infection Control Programming
Individual tasks related to the duty.
1.  Develop, implement, assess and evaluate specific programs for patient and employee infection control in collaboration with departments/committee/disciplines.
2.  Develop and direct on-going standards that are set up in the Infection Control Program.
3.  Evaluates collected data for continuing current infection control programming.
4.  Coordinates and implements annual review of CFP’s policies and procedures/Infection Control Manual including TB Control Plan, Exposure Plan, and IC plan.
Duty 3
General Summary of Duty / 10 % of Time
Departmental Task
Individual tasks related to the duty.
1.  Attend departmental meetings.
2.  Provides unit nurse relief as assigned.
3.  Establish and maintain inter-departmental and community relationships pertinent to assigned duties.
4.  Provides consultation regarding the procurement of equipment, materials, and supplies pertaining to infection control.
5.  Attends workshops as indicated to maintain current practices.
6.  Maintain current CPR & FA certification and other Nursing Department competencies.
7.  Provides emergency response and care to hospital staff and patients in case of disaster or emergencies including FA and CPR.
Duty 4
General Summary of Duty / 10 % of Time
Supervision of Clinic Nurse, Dietitian and Barber
Individual tasks related to the duty.
1.  Provides administrative direct supervision of Clinic, hospital dietitian and hospital barber responsible for timely performance ratings, approval of unscheduled and scheduled time off and necessary corrective and disciplinary action.
2.  Provides clinical oversight in areas of infection control for the hospital’s clinic, nutritional service program and barber program.

18. What kind of physical effort do you use to perform your job? What environmental conditions are you physically exposed to on your job? Indicate the amount of time and intensity of each condition. Refer to instructions on page 2.
Physical activities of the job are standing, sitting, bending, lifting up to 25 pounds. You need to be able to walk 40%, climb stairs 10%, bending 10% and be in a sitting position 40% of the time without any ill effects. You need to be able to walk or run to any of the 7 units if the need arises. Also, need to perform CPR if the need arises. Potential for possible exposure to unpredictable mentally ill patients and possible exposure to blood borne exposure incidents.

There is a minimum hour of work requirement (i.e. 8 hours/day or a minimum of 40 hours/week) 24-7
operation. Must be available to work overtime.

Previously, the position did not have supervisory responsibilities. With re-organization, the Infection Control Nurse will now supervise the hospital’s Clinic Nurse, Dietician’s and Barber/Cosmetologist.

Position is required the Facility Infection Control Program in the Nursing Department. An essential
