Classroom Procedures

Mrs. Gregory

Note from the Instructor

As an instructor, I pride myself on an efficient and smooth running classroom. To achieve this I have established a few simple procedures. As a student, it is your responsibility to learn and perform these procedures. Through these procedures, I promise to you a more organized and effective learning experience.

Most Common Procedures:

Entering the Classroom

You are to enter the classroom without causing a ruckus. Students who do not do this will be asked to leave the room and reenter as expected. It is expected that as soon as you enter you first pickup any handouts in the appropriate tray. You should then get anything you need around the room (pencil sharpening, tissue, etc.). Once seated, check the Smart Board for the day’s bell work and complete it. You should also check the assignment board for the day’s assignment (write it down in your agenda so you don’t forget). You can also use this time to briefly speak with me or make an appointment to make-up a test or get extra help.

Bell Work

Everyday will begin with bell work. You will find the bell work on the Smart Board. Bell work should be started before the bell rings. Most bell work will involve ACT Explore or KCCT test prep questions. Bell work is required. You will complete one week per page in your notebook. For example, one page will include Monday-Friday’s Bell Work. These will be part of the notebook grade and may be taken up as a Classwork grade as well.

Picking up Materials for the Day

Any handouts that you will need on a given day will be found in the tray, marked “Hand-Outs”. If the tray is empty, you don’t need to pick up anything, just begin the day’s bell work. If you arrive late, sign-in the tardy clip board, pick up handouts and quietly go to your seat without causing a distraction. Get the Bell Work from a friend during an appropriate timeframe.

Handing In Homework

If there is an assignment that you need to hand in, place it in the drawer marked with your “class period” when the dismissal bell rings. The cart will remain at the front of the classroom. **If you turn in an assignment after class begins, it will be considered late.

Coming to Attention

When I need to quiet the class, I will countdown from 5-4-3-2-1. When you hear this you are expected to stop your conversation and look at me.

Arriving Late

When you enter the room late (with or without a pass) you do NOT need to disturb the class. Simply sign your name and the appropriate information on the clipboard by the door. Print clearly and sign your name. Signing a name other than your own will result in immediate referral to the assistant principal’s office. If you have a pass, place it in your “class period” tray. If you must speak with me, sign-in, go to your seat, and raise your hand when it is appropriate to do so.

Leaving the Classroom

The bell does not dismiss the class, I DO! Do not pack up until I dismiss the class. Do not leave your seat until I dismiss the class. “People who pack fast shall leave last.”

Absences

On the day you return from an absence you should arrive early to class.

You need to do:

  1. Check the “Assignment” board by the Smart Board in our classroom.
  2. Talk to someone from your table and find out more details about the work that you missed. It is a great idea to exchange telephone numbers with your team members as well.
    * Get an explanation of your homework assignments.
    * Find out what note-taking you missed.
  3. If you missed an individual Quiz, Partner Quiz, or Unit Test or if you have any further questions, please see Mrs. Gregory.
  4. If you need help on any of the work that you missed, you can see Mrs. Gregory before school or after school. Please let her know when you are planning to work with her so that she can plan accordingly.
  5. All Lesson Plans and assignments will be located on my “Moodle” Page. You can access this page as follows: EHMS Website / Contact a Teacher / 6th Grade / Chasity Gregory

Extra Handouts

If you need a handout, because you lost your first one, go to the appropriate “hand-out extras file” located on the filing cabinet next to my desk and get one for yourself. Do not ask me for handouts, go straight to the box. Once the extra handouts are gone no more copies will be made. You must retrieve hand-outs from my “Moodle” page.

Make-Up Tests

If you are absent for a test day (not the day before a test) you will have to arrange for a make-up test.

Detentions

As indicated in the Class Policies.

Using the Bathroom

Do not ask to use the bathroom or go to your locker before class begins; just go before you get to class. Anyone late for any reason is late.

See class policies.
