Re:Workshop Proposals for Los Angeles conference

I am writing to ask if you would like to organize a workshop at our upcoming 8th Trinational Conference, April 18-20, 2008 in Los Angeles.

The conference is being hosted by and will take place at the offices of the United Teachers of Los Angeles (UTLA). The conference title is “Public Education Not For Sale: 8th Trinational Conference in Defense of Public Education.”

Workshops will take place on Saturday, April 19th. They will last approximately 90 minutes. Each workshop should be trinational in nature with speakers from Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. If needed, we can help you find speakers from other countries for your workshop.

We hope that each workshop will produce at least one specific action proposal and the workshop organizer will be responsible for presenting that idea on Sunday morning. We will provide translation for each workshop.

The Conference planning committee has identified these topics as important to Coalition members: Organizing Parent-Teacher Coalitions; Indigenous Education and Public Schools; Halting the Privatization of Public Schools; Standardized Testing and “Accountability”; Strengthening Academic Freedom; Keeping Research Independent of Corporate Control; Organizing Higher Education unions; Halting the Attack on public sector pensions; Immigration, The ICE police and Worker Organizing. Countering the Militarization of Society and Schools; Beyond NAFTA: Plan Mexico, the SPP and Trinational Resistance. Models of Alternative Education. Student Movements and Campus Organizing, Billionaires’ Banquet: Mexican Wealth &Working Class Poverty.

If you would like to organize one of these workshops, please send me an email with a brief description as soon as possible.

Look forward to hearing from you.
