USTA MARYLAND

USTA LEAGUE TENNIS

GRANT PROGRAM for GROWTH 2014

Note: Clarifications/changes are Red and underlined.

As a leader in your tennis community, you are in the perfect position to introduce new players to tennis through USTA League Tennis.

We all know that tennis offers the very best physical and social benefits of ANY recreational activity! Our job as tennis leaders in our communities is to sell TENNIS! And it is a very easy sell! With the national campaigns, the Maryland.usta.com web site, and creative league formats, you can focus on smaller or new communities to incorporate and grow league tennis. Our membership base gets older each year. More and more players are looking for frequent play with their peers.

This year we will focus our grant options on two initiatives:

1.  recruiting new league captains to form teams

2.  captains, coordinators, add 6 new USTA members to their teams (the new USTA members must play a minimum of two matches).

GRANT OPTIONS FOR LOCAL USTA LEAGUE TENNIS PLAN FOR GROWTH

A total $4,000.00 is available to new team captains and/or each captain, coordinator, to add 6 new USTA members to their teams to apply for. These funds are available, only, to be used on one of these two options:

Option One: To support a new captain to form these league types: an Adult 18 & over, Adult 40 & over, Adult 55 & over, Adult 65 & over, Mixed Doubles 18 &over, 40 & over, 55 & over team. Single leagues are included.

This may include:

A.  A $50 stipend given to the new captain. The grant would be compensation for that new captain to form a new league type team identified in Option 1.

B.  The maximum number of teams would be 4 teams.

Option Two: To support a coordinator and captain to add 6 new USTA members to their teams.

This may include:

A.  A $200 stipend given to the coordinator and/or captain once 6 new USTA members are added to a team. (new is defined as “A player who is not a current USTA member, who did not register or participate in leagues in 2013”). The new USTA members must play a minimum of two (2) matches).

B.  The maximum number of teams would be 4 teams.

C.  Combo and Tri-level leagues will not be eligible for this league growth grant.

Clarifications – Q & A’s

Q. Is Adult 40& over considered a new league?

A. If you had a Adult 40 & over League in 2013, the answer is No.

Q. We had an Adult Women’s Weeknight league last year, but this year we are also having an Adult 18&Over Women’s Daytime league. Does that qualify for an incentive?

A. Yes – this is a new league in addition to an already existing league.

Q. If I start both a 2.5 Adult 18&Over men’s and women’s league, will I quality for a double incentive payment?

A. Yes.

CAPTAINS – Option 1

If a player captains a team and they did not captain or co-captain in 2013, the District will award them $50.00.

Q. I captained an Adult league team in 2013, and this year for the first time I am captaining a Mixed Doubles team. Does that qualify for an incentive?

A. No - you’re not a brand new captain.

Q. I am a brand new captain, and I also have a brand new co-captain. Does that qualify for a double incentive?

A. No – only the captain receives the incentive.

Q. I’ve been a captain before, but I have a brand new co-captain. Does he qualify for the incentive?

A. No – only the captain.

Q. If a brand new captain chooses to captain more than one team, does he get a double incentive?

A. Yes – he/she is eligible to receive the incentive for up to four teams.

Q. If any of the newly self-rated players also register for another of my teams, or any other team, does that qualify for a double incentive?

A. No – each player will only be counted once, the date of registration being the determinative factor.

OPTION 2:

If a captain recruits 6 or more newly self-rated players on the same team, and those players did not play in 2013, the captain and coordinator will be awarded $200.00. The 6 players must have been recruited for the captains specific team; self-rated within 60 days before the first match, and must have participated in TWO (2) team match. A default does not count.

Request must be submitted to the Leagues Coordinator Stephanie Foster no later than three weeks after the League Type has ended. No refunds will be issued after this deadline. No exceptions. The date of that league’s last match is considered the league end date.

The Grant reimbursement form must be completed to receive your grant stipend.

The incentive payments will be mailed directly to the League Coordinator (Option 2) and to the recipients (Option 1 & 2) within 3 weeks of receipt of the reimbursement forms.

The Maryland District’s decision on who receives the incentives is FINAL. We reserve the right to terminate or modify this program at any time.

The Maryland District hopes our 2014 Grant Program for Growth Incentive Program will encourage you to start new leagues, recruit new players, and share the joy of USTA League Tennis with others.
