Northern Light shines bright at national awards

Northern Light has triumphed in the marketing category at this year’s SELECT Electrotechnical Awards.

SELECT is the trade body representing the industry in Scotland and holds the awards in conjunction with trade publication CABLEtalk.

Edinburgh-based Northern Light picked up its prize at the gala evening event held in Glasgow’s Radisson Hotel in front a full house of 350 industry guests.

The judges were particularly impressed by the results Northern Light generated from a campaign to grow its business, especially given the pressure it was under.

They said: “Faced with a downturn in workload the company made a decision to target the English and Welsh education sectors. With this objective in mind a new brochure was developed with input from all sections of the business.

“The outcome is that with targeted effort, sales in the sector have shown a massive increase in the last six months. Very impressive marketing, involving all employees.”

Having received the award a representative for the company said: “Wining new business is not easy at the best of times, and particularly at the moment. Our campaign involved everybody in the company and through this concerted effort we have been able to achieve fantastic results. The award really is the icing on the cake to a campaign that has worked incredibly well for us.”

The Marketing Award was sponsored by Voltimum, with McKissock Electrical and Thistle Generators Ltd being short-listed in the final.

Newell McGuiness, managing director at SELECT, added: “The efforts made by Northern Light prove just how effective a focused marketing campaign can be and even though trading conditions are incredibly difficult, it shows that with the right message firms can still go out and win business.”
