NORTHEAST IOWA FOOD BANK ANNOUNCES SUMMER FOOD SERVICE FOR CHILDREN

Waterloo, IA (May 23, 2016) – The end of the school year means the loss of meals for some children in Northeast Iowa. The loss of two meals a day that were once provided as free orreduced costcan present a bigchallenge to some families in our community.

The Northeast Iowa Food Bank is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meal will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Meals will be provided, at the first come, first serve basis, at the sites and times as follows:

  • Boy & Girls Club Evansdale (June 20th – August 12th)

  • YMCA (June 13th – 17th and August 15th – 19th )

Breakfast 8:00 – 8:30am

Lunch 12:00 – 12:30pm

  • Lincoln (June 13th - 17th and August 15th – 19th)

  • Boys & Girls Club Waterloo(August 15th - 24th )

  • Girl Scouts Camp held at First Presbyterian Church (June 13th – July 15th )

The Northeast Iowa Food Bank provides nutritious food and grocery products, to about 200 nonprofit organizations and programs who assist the hungry, and to individuals who need food assistance to sustain life. Last year, the Food Bank distributed more than

7 million pounds of food within a 16-county service area.

The Food Bank provides eight programs that serve the community-Member Agency Distribution, Cedar Valley Food Pantry, the BackPack Program, Kids Cafe, Elderly Nutrition, Mobile Food Pantries, Summer Feeding and a Community Garden. Encompassing all of these programs is nutrition education. The Food Bank is a member of the Iowa Food Bank Association and Feeding America.
