Charitable Objectives:
The Trust’s objectives are to provide cultural experiences which will enlighten, entertain, educate and stimulate appreciation of the arts for the public at large, and in particular the residents of Northamptonshire and the East Midlands.
Our Vision:
Royal & Derngate inspires audiences locally in Northamptonshire and more widely across our region and the UK by creating, staging and screening excellent live performances, creative projects and films.

We will achieve our vision through the delivery of five core aims, which are:
· Maintaining a financially sustainable and resilient organisation
· Hosting a mainstream, quality programme that makes our audiences and staff proud
· Improving the customer experience that we offer to encourage more frequent audience attendance
· Increasing engagement with young people, families and the wider community
· Producing quality theatre experiences that develop audiences and artists
Role Purpose:· To uphold the vision, values, and aims of Northampton Theatres Trust (NTT) and be collectively responsible for supporting the strategic operation of NTT in accordance with the organisation’s constitution, legal and financial obligations.
Principal Responsibilities:
· Support and set the strategic direction of the organisation, and enable the SMT in delivery.
· To attend board strategy planning days.
· Uphold the Vision and Values of NTT.
· Supporting SMT in assessing financial risk and maintaining financial viability.
· To regularly attend, prepare for and fully participate in general and Extraordinary Board meetings, contributing particular expertise where relevant.
· To join the Board Finance committee, providing support and challenge to the SMT who are responsible for financial services and reporting.
· To be an Ambassador for NTT, promoting and representing the organisation to external contacts and bodies and at events.
· To participate in fundraising activity which will include introducing individuals, businesses and other Trusts who are willing and able to support NTT.
· Participate in any Training & Development as identified by the Chair or Vice Chair of the Board.
· Complete Annual Appraisal forms and update Board Skills Matrix with any additional training and skills obtained.
· To comply with the Company’s Memorandum and Articles of Association together with the Standing orders and policies.
Board and committee meetings are generally held in afternoon and early evening in Northampton but some work may have to be conducted at weekends and in normal working hours.
Appointment Terms
Three Year Term (initially expected to serve two terms, with option to extend)
Voluntary Position
Complimentary Tickets for all Productions
Commitment of up to 1 day per month
Person Specification
Essential / Desirable· An understanding of the context in which NTT operates
· Ability to analyse financial and other information, make sound judgements, appraise performance and manage risk.
· A commitment to NTT and its role in the development of the arts in Northamptonshire
· Ability to define, communicate and implement vision, policy and strategy
· Proven ability to network, establish and maintain new and existing relationships
· Experience of planning, managing and controlling budgets
· Experience of motivating staff
· Excellent interpersonal skills
· Committed to accessibility and equality of opportunity for all
/ · Experience of working with the charitable sector· Experience of sourcing public and private funding and donor cultivation
· Experience of being on a Board, in the private sector or charity
· Experience of managing strategic changes, cultural change and major projects
