North Wales 2017

Leaders’ Weekend

April 7/8/9th 2017

Dear Leaders.

Following some very successful weekends in North Wales and the Peak District I have once again organised an activity weekend for 2017. This year the event will once again be in North Wales.

The weekend will be open to Network Scouts (18+), Leaders of all sections and Scout Active Support members of West Mercia Scout County. The weekend will be for beginners and experienced hill walkers. Instruction in hill walking/navigation will be available if you require it. The walking will be geared to the competence of those taking part so there may be low level easy walks as well as more strenuous ones. This would also be an ideal weekend for those who wish to be assessed for an Activity Permit for Hillwalking in Terrain 1 and 2.

This year I have booked accommodation atGwydyr Mountain Club Hut which is located near Capel Curig. OS Explorer map OL17 map ref 734572).The centre is ideally situated within the Snowdonia National Park, an area which offers some excellent hillwalking terrain and superb scenery. The centre has all modern conveniences so you will be able to return after a good day’s activity to a warm building. You will need to make your own travel arrangements to North Wales but I may be able to run a car sharing scheme for those that require it. You will also need to provide your own personal equipment which should be suitable for walking in this type of terrain i.e. waterproofs, sturdy boots and daysac. All meals from Saturday breakfast through to Sunday lunch will be provided.

This year there will be three options available for attendees

Permit Assessment. For those already with the required skills and logged experience there will be the opportunity to be assessed for a Hillwalking T1/T2 Summer Adventurous Activity Permit.

Training. For those looking to improve or learn new skills in hillwalking and navigation.

Self-Led. For those with a level of experience who just want to use the weekend to log some more routes. This could mean going out with the assessment groups or just teaming up with other individuals for a self-led day out.

If you would like to attend this event please complete the booking form (below) and email to .

If you have any questions contact me by phone or email. As places are limited early booking is advised especially for assessment.

Please pass this information on to any one that you think may be interested.
