Factors used in the determination of quarterly grades:

Grades will be based on scores earned on classroom assignments and activities, notebook checks, homework, participation, reports, quizzes, and tests. Letter grades will be assigned each marking period. The student’s grade will be based on the number of points he/she has earned for that marking period. Each marking period grade will be determined by dividing the student’s total earned points by the total points for that marking period.

Example:Total points possible = 150

Student’s total points earned = 124

124/150 = 82.6%

Classwork/Homework/Google Classroom:

Classwork is designed to be completed during class. Most work will be completed in the Google Classroom. Each student will be expected to regularly check their North Penn email account for announcements/assignments/assessments posted in the Google Classroom. Assignments submitted after the due date will be counted as late and graded accordingly for partial credit. Students are expected to adhere to the school/district’s policy on appropriate use of electronic devices and follow all guidelines in regards to plagiarism, which includes, but not limited to, copying/cutting and pasting electronic document. Students who submit another person/student’s work or allow another student to copy his/her work will not receive credit for the assignment.

Notebook:

A notebook is required for this class. The notebook must have a way to fasten papers into the center of the notebook. Students are required to bring their notebook to every class. Most class periods, handouts will be given that should be placed in the notebook. Notebook checks will be administered throughout the marking period. There will be a final check at the end of the year.

Term, Research, and Critical Papers:

There will be no term or critical papers assigned for this course, but some research will be required for small projects during the school year.

Extra Credit:

Extra credit can be earned regularly throughout the year. One option is by finding current articles from reputable sourceson any of the areas covered in the current marking period. The article is to be attached to two paragraphs, one explaining what you learned from the article, and two reacting to the information in the article. Students can earn 5 extra credit points per article with the 2 paragraphs accompanying it. Students can submit an extra credit every other class (once a cycle), possibly earning 30 extra credit points per marking period. Additional extra credit opportunities will be offered throughout the school year as well, typically one per unit, due on or before the respective unit test.

Other:

Students will be expected to make up any tests, quizzes, or assignments the class period immediately following an excused class absence. If an absence is unexcused, the student will receive a zero (0) for the missed test, quiz, or assignment.
