Hi I’m Seb, and I’m here to talk about some of the detail around the new North East Link Project.

North East Link will transform travel around Melbourne by slashing travel times and taking trucks off local roads.

[Vision: Seb speaking]

It will also overhaul the Eastern Freeway with a massive expansion to provide faster and smoother trips.

We’re doing this by increasing the capacity between Springvale Road and Chandler Highway, adding up to three lanes in each direction.

There will be completely separate express lanes for traffic travelling between Tram Road and Bourke Road.

[Vision: Seb speaking - traffic congestion]

The expressways will separate through vehicles from vehicles entering and exiting the Eastern Freeway, reducing congestion and improving vehicle speeds.

A new interchange will be constructed connecting the missing link to the Eastern Freeway.

[Vision: M80 to Greensborough]

Bulleen Road will remain open for local traffic with a new tunnel entrance from North East Link to be built just north of the current Bulleen Road Interchange.

The tunnel will continue underground to Lower Plenty Road with an interchange at Manningham Road providing for local connections.

These will be Melbourne’s longest road tunnels.

They will protect the Heide Museum of Modern Art and nearby parkland.

While we have worked hard to protect surrounding communities, a project of this size will have some impacts.

[Vision: Seb speaking]

Some properties and businesses will need to be purchased so we can build the new tunnel entrances and exits.

[Vision: People talking to North East Link representative - Seb speaking]

We’re talking one-on-one with anyone who is potentially impacted by the project, and will continue to do so as we get on and deliver this project.

Further design work will now get underway.

[Vision: Existing traffic congestion]

And that work will focus on minimising impacts to the community.

[Vision: Traffic]

We simply can’t afford to do nothing.

[Vision: Time lapse of traffic]

Congestion and traffic will get worse as Melbourne continues to grow.

[Vision: Seb speaking - Aerial view of traffic congestion - trucks]

North East Link will slash travel time between Melbourne’s north, east and southeast by up to 30 minutes, and take up to 15,000 trucks off local streets a day.

[Vision: Seb speaking]

We’ll keep you informed as our planning work progresses.
